It has recently been brought to my attention that my players are breaking team rules; specifically, one of them has been caught hanging out with Edju, which is in strict violation of team policy:

Section I-A Player Shall Not:

a. Eat any stadium concessions under any circumstances.

b. Be in lousy Game Shape for more than two (2) consecutive weeks.

EXCEPTION: In (b) above if a player is injured, and has permission from management to be injured, it is not a violation if his injury does not stem from eating stadium concessions.

c. Visit the city of Salisbury, Massachusetts, USA, nor its suburbs, adjacent counties, or otherwise be within one hundred miles for any purpose other than scheduled League and/or Tournament games. In the case of games as the schedule dictates, all players are not permitted to exit team transport (including all buses, trains, airplanes, Segway®s, tandem bicycles, roller skates, et. al.) without the express written consent of team management.

d. Consume any beverage, carbonated or otherwise, while using team computers. This rule is referred to elsewhere in these rules as the "Timmons Clause."

As i see it, benching these players really doesn't teach them a lesson, as they still earn paychecks every Monday. If we GMs had the ability to fine said players for such egregious transgressions, the exemplary damages might go a long way to resolving a lot of disciplinary issues.

I submit that these punitive measures might not only bring our players in line and perhaps ease our weekly financial outlay, but perhaps more importantly produce better citizens and role models for our communities. I think everyone wins, and can't think of a single reason this would be a bad idea.

I can't imagine how long your team policy is!

Did the alleged "hanging out" occur within the designated no-admittance zone? For example, at least for the subsection quoted, there does not appear to be any restriction whatsoever against a player and an edju convening at a location outside of the defined 100-mile radius and perhaps sharing nibbles on a biscuit whilst listening to the latest Rebecca Black joint. (For the purposes of this loophole, I will assume that they have properly determined where the unacceptable zone is, which I imagine is further refined in subsequent sections to include whether this is a strict 100 miles from the midpoint or follows the NFL policy regarding signal penetration of over the air broadcasts, and of course the distinction between African and European swallows).

So while I endorse your suggestion indeed, I also think we need to ensure that the grievance policy for players is robust enough to allow fair, frank and confidential sessions to determine the matters of fact involved, and perhaps a penalty found in cases where players have been fined improperly. Or, of course, we could go with the time-honored "Screw the Players!" mechanic, but let's have a season's notice so I can build up my lockout fund.
