The goal for team USA all season has been to get to the Semi Finals. That goal has been accomplished as team USA will face Uruguay Friday night at 9 PM EST. A win clinches an automatic birth in Worlds Championship Tournament next season, and would send them to the Tournament of the Americas Championship Final to face the winner of Chile vs Canada.

This season has had some interesting moments including some with guys who are not even on the team this season. However, one of the weirdest and msot unexpected exchangees happened Monday night following the teams 110-84 victory over Bolivia. When the team was celebrating their victory mild mannered Zane Ritter who was a little bummed out having not been put into the game, asked "Who do we play now?" Charles Dube who led all scorers with 27 points on 12/16 shooting, and 4 assists yelled back over the noise of the celebration "Uruguay!!" Without hesititating Ritter launched at Dube and tackled him to hte floor. As he started to punch Dube, Hurst and Maples quickly grabbed Ritter holding his arms so he couldnt punch Dube. As Ritter was being seperated from Dube he was yelling, "I am not gay!! I am not gay!!". Dube started laughing, and that just made Ritter even more angry as he tried going after him again, but the bigs held him back to which Dube replied "I didn't say you are gay, I said we play (You're-a-Gway). Ritter was pretty embarassed and walked out of the locker room.

The team was pretty relieved when Ritter showed up for practice Tuesday morning. Brian was the first to greet him when he arrived, and tried to soothe his hurt feelings by offering to take him on a shopping spree! This just angered him more as he screamed "Now you think I am a woman? A shopping spree? Are you serious?" Seemed like nobody could win in trying to help Zitter calm down. Finally the team called in Word-Smith, Stauder, the USA NT Team official English lanugage specialist, and after about an hour, Zane joined the team on the practice court, and everthing seemed to be okay. Neither he nor Stauder would comment about what they spoke about, but those must have been magical words from the Word-Smith, because Tuesday and Wednesdays practice sessions have beee the best Zitter has looked all season!

Join us Friday night in the chat room for what is sure to be a great game against Uruguay (pronouced You're-a-gway!), and watch your USA team continue the success of a great sesaon, and earn a birth into the Worlds Championship next season! It's been a great season, with a great deal of the community involved in the successs of this team! Let's keep it going and keep developing those USA players and make our presence in the Worlds Tourney our best yet!!

Go USA!!

English Language Specialist...man I hope Hoosier reads this. That's funny stuff.

I'm still confused as to why Ritter responded so well...I just told him if he calms down and practices hard there will be a "happy ending" waiting for us after the semi-final. Hmmmm now that I think of it I bet he thought the happy ending was something other than a birth in the World's next season....

Game Recap

With an automatic Worlds berth on the line, the United States faced off with rival Uruguay in the Americas Semifinal in Mexico on Friday night. This being the most important game of the season, and with the US star Joe Bronson injured, GM-Jason called up Point Guard Jamie Nix to be the team's floor general.

Both teams went with inside offenses, but Uruguay surprisingly used a 2-3 zone to counter the Americans inside attack. Uruguay, having low enthusiasm due to having Jairo's homemade enchiladas with Tecate pregame, used the controversial defensive tactic in order to shore up their inside defense and rebounding. By the end of the 1st half though, it was obvious that neither team was interested in playing any defense, as the US had a 59-50 lead.

At halftime Jason implored the team to play some defense in the 2nd half, and brian of course tried to bribe them, but to no avail as the 3rd quarter was no different, both teams scoring at will. The Uruguayans never truly threatened, at times cutting the lead under 10, but could gain no more momentum. The US closed out the game with the only drama being that Coco, Jason, Wozz and I got into a brawl during the 4th quarter over something completely unrelated to the game.

Small Forward Bill Weeks, in his rookie season with the NT, led the team with 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Big man Lorenzo Bland chipped in with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

This means the US NT streak of never missing a Worlds is still alive! The U.S. will now face Chile on Sunday, 9pm Eastern to decide the winner of the Americas Tournament. Though this game will only be for pride, please join us and watch as the US battles for Americas gold!
