Welcome to Season 18. Good luck to all. I went as well as expected in the draft after investing $0. Going to check out the rest of the draft now.

I also produced nothing for my $0 investment. It was however on a par with what I produced when I invested 20K every week so nothing has changed.

Hey guys, just got back from a 4 day drinking binge in Melbourne for the Cup. Feeling a little too shabby to put together a write up just yet but I do have the rest of the week off so I'll get it done! ;-)

Welcome all to season 18!

Alright alright it's time to strip the newbies down and have look to see what they've got! (Better late than never).

Also welcome to all new teams and those going around again. Vics already making a very early bid for the title, not a move we're accustomed to seeing. Will be refreshing to see something different after a number of teams using the WB "big buy up late" tactic (HA/Smeltz). Will it pay off, only time will tell. Good luck to all!

Big 8 Newbies

ABBL - Relegate:

Snuffies
- Manager: Manchild - It's pretty safe to say any of the ABBL relegates this season won't be pleasant. Snuffies won the least amount of games and that doesn't necessarily mean that we've scored the weakest team. It could instead mean we've got a resting dragon about to unleash furious savings that he's been hoarding up all season long. Across the board Manchild's current roster looks pretty consistent, with a starting five all between $40k-$50k (4 of them just under $50k). Currently there are two worthy backups and a couple of young trainees too underdone to be dangerous at this stage. I expect Snuffies will sit steadily early on but has the potential to come on strong midway through the season. When up and running (like season 16) this team will do a lot of damage, lets just wait and see how things pan out. With Vics throwing down an early gauntlet, Manchild may choose to hold off a season, rather than getting in a vicious brawl with an angry mage. Snuffies has been around since season 5 and spent seasons 12-14 in the ABBL previous to last season. With that kind of experience it's hard to be sure, but I see the potential ladder position come finals anywhere between 5th-1st.

Div III.15 Promotee:

Geelong Vipers - Manager: Matt1986 - These guys have only been around since midway through season 14 (relegated) and have done pretty well to come from Div IV up to Div II in really only 3 seasons. Not a bad looking trophy cabinet in such a short period and looks to know his stuff. In the lineup we have clear standout for team MVP in $74k C Sam Rosales. Also the most recent purchase is a $40k SG who won't be getting any better at 30yo. After that the salaries drop down to a couple of $20k players with a bit more time on their side. A couple of backups in the teens but glaringly obvious are the lack of a clear PG and PF. This will have to be rectified or the Vipers will be battling relegation. Without some big spending I can't see this team getting higher than 6th and could go as low as 8th.

Div III.5 Promotee:

Porirua - Manager: Maanonu - Another Div III upstart but one that has had a little more time experience but a little less success, Porirua joined up in season 11 (Div IV). Looks like they were gifted promotion after one more season and spent season 13-15 trying to reach Div II, only to be relegated to Div IV once more. This time Maanonu bounced right back up and then went back to back to finally join us in time for season 18. Already there are a number of players up for trade, including monster C Fernando Jiménez Cacho who would have fit right in this league with a $120k salary. With 5 players currently up for sale we could be seeing an early bid for 8th spot. With only a $40k and $30k player left, a tank could be just the ticket. We've seen teams do this and bounce back stronger so punch in potential of 7th-8th with the latter most likely.

Great 8 Newbies:

Div III.4 Promotee:

Footsteps - Manager: Secosabi - Footsteps is certainly no BB "babe in diapers" and has been throwing it down since season 5. They spent a lengthy time in Div II.4 from seasons 8-15 before dropping down to regroup for a couple of seasons. This team knows how it all works but at this point won't be causing too many headaches just yet. Serious changes need to be made as there are only 2 worthy players in the starting 5 at this early stage. A $60k C (who hasn't got one of those) and old $47k SG. Scrolling down the list there are four players in the $20k range but there are some serious age issues in that same group. With Docs Patients clearly showing positive activity on the market and Lordy also putting $2mil on a young PG, all new teams have an uphill battle. It may be unfair to judge so early on but based on what i'm seeing, this team will finish in the relegation playoff zone, currently hot for last place in the conference.

Div III.3 Promotee:

Urmummas - Manager: Urmumma - Well first things first, are we seeing another potential Smeltztroopers or what here?! He might be a little long in the tooth now but Taylor Waterhouse, at PG, with a $126k salary and nothing else over $40k to back him, anything is possible! These guys have been around since season 9 and moved straight to Div III. They were then stuck battling against a number of well known teams, biding their time and now finally coming in ready for business. At this stage there probably isn't really enough time to put together a Smeltztrooper team before the little PG will need to be sold. I think Urmumma might need to consider that soon, with 4 starting five players all over 30 and a franchise PG not far off. Perhaps some tough decisions ahead for Urmumma but other teams have succeeded with similar looking rosters. With that PG I can see these guys winning some games off his back but not really enough to avoid a relegation series. Looks like a spot for 7th considering Footsteps apparent tank.

Cheers mate, would have a been a noisy ABBL this season had you managed to stay up. Plenty of activity will all your mates up there that's for sure.

Hopefully I can pull something out of the bag and thwart Vics on his early attempt to scare everyone off! :-D
