- Put your trainee as a starter, back up and reserve in your required position
- Set Substitutions to: Strictly follow depth chart
- Set Foul Trouble to: Let them play
- Remove any players that are not present in your line up (put them in the remaining roster box)

Exactly. You had 12 players fielded for the game when you only needed 9. When you leave one or more players in the squad for the game, that are not in your starting line up or back ups/reserves... chances are he will substitute your trainee when you are comfortably in the lead.
That's why any players that are not listed as starters or backups/reserved should not be in your squad. You have to transfer them to the "Remaining Roster" space.

In that case make sure that every other slot in the depth chart also lists a reserve. Usually I would just list the backup player in both the backup and reserve slots.

I had trouble getting trainees all 48+ minutes when I had very large blowouts, but doing the above solved that.

NOTE - But yeah, as Dodor says, you can't have extra guys dressed in the game, or the coach is very likely to insert them, especially in big blowout wins.

actually, there already a list of reserves for them. that is why i cant understand why my coach used other reserves to replace my trainee.

im afraid of only suiting up less than 9 players as there might be injuries...

what i will do is this. see if it works

starting- backup - reserve
PG trainee - trainee - trainee
SG SG - Bckup SG - trainee
SF SF - Bckup SF - trainee
PF PF - Bckup PF - trainee
C C - Bckup C - trainee

will this ensure that my PG trainee will never be substituted out of the game? even if he has awful stamina?

Well, if you're going to get a guy 48+ minutes in a single game, as Dodor pointed out, you must dress only 9 players, and run the risk of foul outs and injuries. There's no other way to do it

The problem with the way you set it up it that your trainee could be substituted into a different position in his reserve role, which kinda defeats the purpose, no?

Single position training and trying to get 3 players their 48+ minutes every week involves an inherent trade off between the training and your team's performance in league games. You could instead only focus on two main trainees, and then it would be pretty easy to get 48+ minutes at the training position every week.

You can leave the reserves blank, but I've had more luck listing each position's backup also in the reserve role. This prevents weird substitutions when the game is an extreme blowout.

List Back up and Reserve as the same player. What's the point to leave the Reserve spot blank!?
