Okay I know its not usually a good idea to examine the boxscore too much but I just scouted a player with 5 balls... and this was his boxscore numbers for shooting...

FG: 17-17
3FG: 4-4
FT: 1-1

Points: 39 points...

Does this in your honest opinion tell me that he is going to have good shooting or does it mean nothing just like most box scores do?

check his potential before getting toooooo excited. Probably find he is a bench warmer and already capped or something ;)

how he said above me, if he has a high potential (at least 4) put him first in your list without even thinking :-), but if you want trian him check his height and age or uses a sign and sell LOL

Stats in the boxscore are usually used as tie-breakers when you can't decide between players with similar skills/potential. They're not a reliable way of estimating one's ability (not saying balls and rating are always reliable but they have a certain known and guessable range). He could be playing against a very weak defender. I'd usually check Star, Potential, Grade and Height, before looking at the stats. I think it would be great if the player has a good FT conversion rate, if it was me I'd hate to train player's free throws...

Last year i drafter a guy without looking out his potencial, due to lack of scouting points, he scored like 36 point in a game, grabbed 15 rebs and made some nice assists, i think around 7-8. He had great skills! 63 Skillpoints without ft, stamina and exp, but there was one but.....he was only sixth man potencial and practicly already capped

year ago, i drafted 2 guys who scored like 2 and 3 points a game with terrible shooting, but looked out their potencials they were 4 balls. So now they are starters at my roster, they were 4300-4500 salary, 51-47 skillpoints and both with lvl 7 potencial. SO i suggest u to scout potencial, cause box score means nothing.

Nice statline, I'd say don't use it ahead of potential/stars/height, but after that feel free to use it.

Reminds me of my boy George's statline

and he's turning out pretty good;)

I got interviewed him and this is what he looks like. pretty decent but the potential worries me a little...

5 star rating
3 star potential
18 years old
A+ rating
6'10"
Power Forward

Is 3 star potential going to be enough?

I would draft him, being in D.IV. So yeah. Part of the problem with going after High potential, in our divisions, is that towards the end they get so expensive. To train him to a 40-60K PF, sure.

Go for it.
(he'd be my 1st pick, but thats since I want to do a little big man training)

If you manage on getting him, I'd focus on his ID first. I'd also ignore rebounding for now, since that shoots up his salary.

3 star is star/allstar level for potential. That isn't the holy grail but you're likely still getting a very solid prospect at 18 years old.

You can train a star potential player into a $20-30000 player and an allstar into a $40-60000 player. Now if he only had 1-2 star potential, that would really suck.

sometimes some stats can give an indication of a lacking of skill.

eg: 7 turnovers, or 1-8 FT shooting. these m ight indicate low handling/passing or Free throw.

Also, if you have say a 6'2 C, his box score may also give an indication to his actual abilities that are causing him to classified as a centre.

eg: 6'2 C, who gets 13 rebounds, is probably high in rebounding.

its only ever an indication though and shouldnt be read as gospel.

I had the same dilemma as you, as I was contemplating drafting a 5 star A+ with low potential. He turned up at the start of the season like this:

Jump Shot: average Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: mediocre Handling: respectable
Driving: inept Passing: awful
Inside Shot: respectable Inside Def.: respectable
Rebounding: mediocre Shot Blocking: inept
Stamina: average Free Throw: strong

Now more than half season into it...

Ko Guo Quiang (23029149)
Power Forward
Owner: Likas Internets

Weekly salary: $ 4 520
Role: rotation player
(BuzzerBeta)

DMI: 58600
Age: 18
Height: 6'5" / 196 cm
Potential: star
Game Shape: strong

Jump Shot: strong ↑ Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: mediocre Handling: prominent
Driving: proficient ↑ Passing: awful
Inside Shot: strong Inside Def.: respectable
Rebounding: mediocre Shot Blocking: inept
Stamina: average Free Throw: strong

Experience: atrocious

He will probably cap in a few seasons... but I think he will be a great backup for my team, and I don't intend to fill my roster with salary heavy guys anyway.
