For me, my method that i recently discovered is to train a specific category. For example, I suppose many of you do this; but if i'm training centers/power forwards. I would train Inside def one week, then either "Shot blocking" or rebounding the next and maybe inside shot.

Since they all train each other, i'm almost guaranteed a pop each week, that's depending on how low or how high the sublevel of the particular skills are. So how many of you do this method of training? Or do you just train one particular skill the whole season? I've always found that training one particular skill all season takes longer, though others may disagree, that's just how i feel.

I train where my best prospects need the most help. The rest of them are just along for the ride.

Yeah, i was thinking of shot blocking this week, it was inside defense last week, he's 19 years old and his shot blocking, rebounding and inside shot needs a little work, they could all be respectable by the end of the season, or i should say two of those skills.

I also like idea of working on the weakest skill, and that's what i get to that others are along for the ride. I'm building a balanced center this year for the rest of the season. Rebounding, inside shot and shot blocking are all at average, inside defense is proficient, after two pops this season in that skill. I think after shot blocking, it'll be inside shot, since that sub level will be higher; he'll learn fast in inside skills as well since he's 7'4, he's going to be a beast in the next few seasons in all big man skills.

Your best trainee looks like a 6'1" SG. I can't think of a bigger waste of time then giving a player like that shotblocking training. If you're going to insist to train your short guards on big man skills, stick primarily to ID and maybe IS.

Just my observation.

Thanks, I'll change the tactic to inside shot then. But yeah, i singled position trained my big man this year. I worked on his inside def a couple of times and he got two pops in that skill.

As for the other poster, i wanted to train my 18 year old in some big man skills because i wanted to make him into an all around player, i know he's too short for this but, i wanted him to have similar skills to a sf. I also got a u21/nt advertisement when clicked on the 18 year old's name. I'm also going to train the 18 year old in some guard skills this off season, the only skill that will never be any good because of how low it is, is his passing. But this week, i'm going to try to improve the guard's inside shot a little this year since i'm training centers this year. I already have my 19 year old center set to receive 48 minutes for tonight's game as he'll be my only center for tonight.

Making him an all-around player is a good ideal. Training a 6'1" player in shotblocking is just a really bad idea. Some skills just won't matter than much for certain players.

In fact, many/most owners view shotblocking as overrated and don't train it at all, even for their bigs. I've been training bigs for 3 full seasons now and have trained shotblocking exactly zero times. I'd rather give a big man passing or jump shot training.

Co-sign this.

Even if you did 2 position training with 5-6 players, that would be ok. But you need to focus on training either bigs or smalls and just fill the rest of the roster out with veterans so that you won't be tempted to start training them as well!

I've been reading your posts for 3 years here, umpteen people have told you to focus your training instead of spreading it out but you keep creeping back to old habits. Change these bad habits and you'll promote. It's that simple.
