Hey Guys,

For season 7 of the Fishbowl, Bainsy and myself are looking to run a Fishbowl league wide tipping contest.. We are doing this poll to guage interest, and will then setup a weekly tips thread once we have determined the interest.

There are 3 options in the poll:

Option 1 - Yes- With bonus points for picking correct margins - You pick the winner and guesstimate a winning margin.. Bonus points are added for guessing correct winning margins.

Option 2 - Yes - Only give a point for a correct winner - You only submit who you think will win the game, no bonus points.

Option 3 - No - Could not give a rats.... - Self explanatory, if to many don't, we dont :D

Basically, the option with the most votes wins..

There may even be an offer for a prize at the end of the season if certain criteria are met.. More to be revealed if option 1 or 2 wins :D

Poll:  Are you interested in a Fishbowl tipping contest?

Correct answer only. Trying to pick a margin sounds cool, but after round 3 everyone doesn't give a toss and no one bothers to tip.

Just picking the winner makes it a bit easier, which means more people will stay in for longer.

guessing margins is something we do in our 3.12 comp.. we had 2 correct guesses last nite, and a couple just off.. it adds to the excitement to get a correct guess, and it could also be a way to have 1 clear winner..

happy to do whatever the people vote for :D

Instead of margins you guys can create a "spread" that has to be covered.

For example Bainsy v Skyhooks: Bainsy +10. So a bet on Bainsy means that you are expecting him to win by more than 10.

However with 18 games a week there is probably already more than enough to guess on.

Ok all that is a bad idea and I think I have a better one.

Each Friday night or Saturday you just make a list of the six games that matter. Instead of everyone having to bet on 18 games which seems like too much work, and lots of those games will be totally obvious, just choose the six games of the week. The two closest games in each division. They will be the most interesting anyway. It will be a lot easier for everyone including you guys keeping score. What is easier adding up 18 results of 20 people or 6 results of 20 people?

The fail will be if you guys are slack in announcing the games of the next week.

How is that? I think you had something like that back in either III.6 or your division.

it is something that bainsy and i have talked about, briefly.. i think 6 per week would work for sure. tipping on 18 games would become tiresome i guess, but 6 would keep it fresh for longer..

the challenge is, to work it out so your not betting on the same 2 teams each week from each league.. so 1 week it could be a top 2 clash, and the next it could be a clash of the cellar dwellers or a midtable match..

slackness shouldnt be an issue between 2 of us, i would expect each week the games would be up in time for saturdays game, giving folks nearly 1 week to tip..(except the first week of course..)

It shouldn't matter if you were betting on the top two or the bottom two, just make it the games that you guys think will be the closest.

a) I agree keep it to 6 or so games. While I'm interested in the idea, there is no way I could be stuffed analysing 18 games every week!

b) re margins, could you do it in a similar fashion to the way most footy tipping comps are run. That is, have one game (the game of the round) where a margin tip is required. This would act as a tie breaker for the round (most tips + closest to the margin for the round wins) and could also act as a season tie breaker in the event that two or more teams are tied.

Yeah, agreed that margins makes it more interesting. I think if you limit it to a certain number of games (I think you guy suggested 6?), then that will definitely increase the chances of guys sticking with it.
