One of my biggest struggles (likely for many) is the attempt to balance training with being competitive.
I currently am doing 1- position training with 3 young guards each week. I appropriately play a different guard each game so that they control all 3 spots on the depth chart and play 48 minutes (normally). I also have my coach strictly follow the line-up.
At one point I had a PF that was much better than my backup and I was unable to start him twice a week because he would play at least 40 minutes each game and ruin his GS.
I would like to maintain my training but have some other starters play a few less minutes each game so that I can start them twice a week.
I am considering the idea of letting my coach pick from the depth chart but I am not sure if it would help. I am unsure if my PG in the case above might get benched even though he controls all three spots on the depth. I also wonder whether or not my PF would actually play any less.
If anyone has any insight on my plan or any other ideas that I have not thought of I would appreciate it :)
