He is way to tall to train as a guard. He is a great height for training big man skills. I would concentrate on getting his IS/ID and Rebounding up this season. Down the track i would mix in some JS and One one One for Forwards. Could use some Passing as well but u would have to play him at PG for that.

Start off by getting IS ID and REB all at 7 by the end of the season. If you have extra time before the season ends keep doing ID as much as you can. Next season try to get him to around 10-12 IS 11-13 ID and 11 or 12 REB. Thats what ill do others have different opinions.

Yes. The position that they are listed as is just a suggestion as to what position their skills show they would be best at playing, but with him being 7'1" and a trainee, you would want to make him a Center because he will train much much much much much faster for inside skills. I think you are actually very lucky because now you dont have to work on outside skills hardly any since he was originally a SG and you can just make him a BEAST center with good outside skills to go along with it ;)

+1 point from me as well.
I've heard that players 'suggested position' can change over time.
Does this happen at the training update? Or at the end of the season? Or at all?

It would be a pretty big deal if you're trying to keep a player's salary low by training him in things that don't increase the salary too much for his position, and then all of a sudden he becomes the position where those exact attributes are really expensive. Has this happened to anyone?

It wont ever make a sudden massive jump in salaries. For example if you had a 20k SG who you were training in passing, each week the game would calculate his salary as a PG and as a SG. He would stay a 20k SG until the day his salary as a PG would be higher - probably around 20-22k.
