Which is better for 3 point shooting. 9 3 or 5 5 (proficient JS, awful JR vs mediocre mediocre)?

well it depends on what position he is playing.if i want a SF or a PG then i would go for the first one.but if i want an SG then i would go for the second one.
though personally i am not a fan of JR but awful JR is way too low for a SG.
though if given a choice i wont buy any one of them unless i am looking for a PF with decent outside skills.

For PF/C I'd say the first one cuz I don't think they take too many 3 pointers under normal circumstances.

if u are looking for a PF/C then the first one is a much better choice.the post players dont take much 3pt shots and even if they do there is a small chance that the attempt would be a long one so JR doesnt value much for them

Also if they're being guarded by a big man in a man-based defense, the odds are the opponent's big man will have low enough OD that the chances of hitting the shot go up significantly.

ok, I'm in the dark here. what exactly do these numbers mean? also, how is it possible to find out what an opponent's players' specific skill sets are?

You can't see the skills of an opponents players. Well you could ask him for them but good luck getting them.
