First of all, congratulations to mllama for finally winning that elusive national title. I've been meaning to write about this for a while but didn't have much of a chance until now. And my write-up will be about which player would win Finals MVP if BB awarded it. This almost always goes to a player on the winning team, and in my opinion, the Wombats back-court made all the difference. But here's every player in ascending order of minutes played so you can judge for yourself:
Leslie Gafa: Only played significant minutes in game 2, where he had 21 minutes and scored 10 before getting injured. He would be healthy for game 3 but barely got off the bench and recorded all zeros on the stat sheet apart from +/- of -1.
Series average: 7.7 MPG, 0.625 FG, 0 3PT, 0 FT, 0.7 RPG, 1 APG, 0.3 TOPG, 0 SPG, 0 BPG, 3.3 PPG, 13.5 match rating.
Miroslav Vídenský: Kremer's foul-out troubles allowed him to get his fair share of minutes. And he made sure he was effective. Sure, his defence on Arcuato was below par, but on the offensive end he was accurate and reliable. He didn't get a single block in this series though.
Series average: 17.3 MPG, 0.571 FG, 0 3PT, 0.714 FT, 3.7 RPG, 0 AST, 0.3 TOPG, 0 SPG, 0 BPG, 7 PPG, 14 match rating.
Jackson Goodall: Had a great series considering he was a 6th man. Game 2 was his best game even though the Wombats lost. He had a good field goal % and also made a lot of steals. He also filled in at every position except C at some point during the series.
Series average: 21.3 MPG, 0.484 FG, 0.500 3PT, 0.571 FT, 4.3 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0 TOPG, 2 SPG, 0 BPG, 12 PPG, 14 match rating.
Shachaf Kremer: Had a real attitude problem or something because all he did was foul out! Actually, no. He did put some points and rebounds on the board, but his defence was bad. His assignment was Arcuato, who ended up having a big series, and that's at least partially the defenders fault.
Series average: 31 MPG, 0.476 FG, 0 3PT, 0.800 FT, 9 RPG, 0 APG, 2 TOPG, 0.3 SPG, 0 BPG, 9.3 PPG, 15.7 match rating.
Birol Yalduz: His contribution to the team was more on defence than offence. Sure, he was good on offence too, but he held Wazza to 1-12 shooting in one of the biggest games of his career. That alone gives him a solid MVP case and his stat sheet strengthens this case.
Series average: 35 MPG, 0.441 FG, 0.250 3PT, 0.889 FT, 7 RPG, 4 APG, 0.7 TOPG, 1.3 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 13 PPG, 15.2 match rating.
Hahi Bin Awang: He did it all, shooting the lights out, passing it well, and keeping the guards he defended in check, particularly McNamara who only had 5 APG and 5.7 PPG for the series. For all that, mllama added him to the hall of fame after game 3. A true MVP performance on both ends of the court. Surely he deserves an NT call-up?
Series average: 36.3 MPG, 0.571 FG, 0.455 3PT, 0.625 FT, 2.3 RPG, 7.7 APG, 1 TOPG, 1.3 SPG, 0 BPG, 16.7 PPG, 16.3 match rating.
Antonio Manfrotto: His defence this series was a bit sloppy. But that's more to do with mllama assigning him Gusic for the series than him actually being bad. Manfrotto played well offensively, the 2-10 shooting in game 2 aside.
Series average: 44 MPG, 0.463 FG, 0 3PT, 0.571 FT, 9.7 RPG, 0.7 APG, 1.3 TOPG, 0 SPG, 1 BPG, 18 PPG, 16.7 match rating.
Leszek Anczykowski: 2-9 shooting in game 1 and 10-29 in game 2 made him seem horribly overrated. In game 3 however he would show why he was paid so much, finishing with 14 assists, 0 turnovers and 27 points. His defence on the other hand was legendary throughout the series, it seemed whoever he was guarding was destined to have a bad game.
Series average: 47 MPG, 0.371 FG, 0.364 3PT, 0.417 FT, 3.7 RPG, 9.7 APG, 2.3 TOPG, 1 SPG, 1.7 BPG, 19.7 PPG, 18.3 match rating.
So there you have it. Personally I think Hahi Bin Awang is the MVP, though it would've been close since there was no standout player for the Wombats, and Gusic and Arcuato nearly won the series for Koop on their own. Your thoughts?
