We have arrived in season 20. In our previous season, we made the european championship for the 3rd time in BB history and I'm hoping to close out this season in the same style as season 18 ( i would love to have a nice finish).

Anyhow, our first 2 opponenets are known.

First we'll be playing the Danish NT of Funzip, owner of Sven Marchoul, on our court. After that, we'll be playing away on the sunny island of Barbados.

Considering that France, Germany, Canada, Brasil, Srbija are all in the consolation tourney ( with more good teams to come) i think we've gotten a pretty nice first 2 draws. Key will be to save enthousiasme and hope that we'll lucky for the draw of the remaining 6 teams that would round up the consolation tournament.

As for now, the goal is to make the KO stages of the tournament, but ofcourse, this goal will be updated once the rest of the round robin schedule is known.

As you all know, this should be my last season as headcoach of the NT. After this season i'll be working on the NT backstage again. So let's try to repeat and maybe improve on our results of season 18!

That's definetely a good draw, I don't trink Barbados can really compete with our team. Densmark is another story though, but at home that should do it (hopefully).

NT starts off with a somewhat difficult win against Denmark. IT took the Belgians about 3 quarters to really get their offense going. The main problem was the risky move that the Danish NT coach had taken by playing a 2-3 zone. IT was working pretty well, and Kjaergaard was anchoring the defence around him very well. But early in the 4th quarter, the Belgians finally managed to draw the 6th faul off Kjaergaard, and that was the end of any hopes for the Danish NT of upsetting the Belgians before Belgian homecrowd.

The Belgian NT finally started playing in the 4th quarter, abusing the fact that back-up centre Ebbesen just couldn't anchor the defence properly after Kjaegaard was forced to retire for the rest of the game after fouling out. Suddenly, players were scoring all over the place, from penetration points by making lay-ups to jump shots and of course by some ally-oops and dunks. Danish NT couldn't muster a whole lot on the offensive end in the 4th Q either. The Belgian NT finally had found the weakness of it's pray and went in for the kill.

Belgians thus start with the all important win in the first game, despite having an extremely weak GS ( weakest GS after the first week in the past 8 seasons!)

Next game should be against Barbados, a team against which our NT will be hoping to run up the score big time... But in order to do that, the belgian players will have to work hard on their Gameshape, because if this keeps up, we'll be lucky if we can get a win by a large margin against Barbados.

see you next week monday,

GM-Revo

well, the draw could have been worse i guess.

our next games are:
Away against Lietuvia (15)
Home against Egypt (31)
Home against Greece (36)
Away against Jamaica (94)
Home against Romania (38)
Away against Hong Kong (92)

As far as i can see, we got 1 game that can't be won ( against Lietuvia. If i'd want to win their, i'd need to play with more enthousiasme than Lietuvia, and that is something i'm not willing to risk for just one game). So the game against Lietuvia will be a certain loss (Lietuvia might end up as tournament winners. They got an incredible strong team and for once, they all seem to be in good shape!)

then, we play Egypt, which is a the first time that Belgium will face them. This is a team that usually plays in the world championship. Last time they participated in the consolation tournament, was in season 10. They got a strong team with a few players that could give us trouble. But considering that we got HCA, we should be able to win this. However, their schedule is what worries me most. We don't have the luxury to be wasting any enthousiasme so this could be an though game where decisions will have to be made.

After that, we play Greece home. And this is what i don't understand. Greece has great players, yet they always seem to be unlucky in some way. They've lost against Lietuvia and are still playing Slovenia ( just before us) and our team, before playing 3 relatively easy games. Their schedule after us is relatively easy, so again, need to be carefull for this game.

After those 2 difficult home games, we play an away game against Jamaica. The good news is: they've already played CT vs France, and they play UAE before playing against us, so they might decide to take their chances in search for a win against UAE by playing CT, which would leave them without enthousiasme against us. If their top C remains in poor shape, we shouldn't worry to much about jamaica and our game against them. We'll be trying to run up the score again, just like when we played Barbados.

After a try to Jamaica (where the staff will have to pay extra attention that the players don't start abusing drugs or spend to much time on the sunny beach!) we'll be playing a last though home game against Romania. Romania is a team that Belgium are all to familiar with. They were responsible for Belgium not making it to the european championship in season 17. However, redemption was found last season when Belgium were able to beat romania and thus qualify for the european championship. This will be the 3rd time in the past 4 seasons that the teams meet, so it should be interesting to see what will come forth of this meeting.

And last but not least, we play our final game of this round Robin pool in Hong Kong. A few of their top players are struggling with their gameshape, which would break for us, however, we can be sure that we'll be up against a CT here. So the trick will be to bring home the win, and not worry to much about the point difference. As much as i'd like to run up the point differential in our favor in this last game, i don't like the odds playing away against a team that, were it to be in great GS, could be a problem is they saved their enthousiasme right up untill the last game. Their top player currently have GS 4, and i hope they will remain like that.

Anyhow, anything is possible from a 7-1 finish to a 5-3 finish. a 7-1 finish would guarantee us HCA in the first round ( and probably in the second round aswell, provided that we manage to get out of the first round). a 6-2 record becomes a tricky thing, since we'll then need an excelent point differential to gain HCA in the first round, and shouldn't have any in the second round ( unless the highest ranks team of our opponents first round match would be defeated on their own court). a 5-3 record could end us anywhere between 24th and 40th spot, meaning we'd face immmediate or first round KO elimination.

At least the TS management plan is rather clear.

Well, the team can get a full load of wins in this round, let's hope for the best ! (Not that I'm worried about it, but is it safe to discuss game schedules on this forum ?)

We have HCA for most tight games, but I dont' think we can perfect this. So I'd bet for a 6 - 2 :p

I've discussed my opposing teams. It's an analyse of our situation now. Nothing is decided till the games are over, and injuries can occure on both sides, changing the odds of who will win. Just explained my expectations and which kind of record our Nt could end up with.

After having narrow pretty close to Lietuvia ( where we only were 5 points behind halfway Q3, but then they pulled away and we never got close anymore) which, considering it was their court, was a pretty good result, we now have beaten Egypt on our court.

As Expected they came with a higher enthousiasme, which will no doubt hurt us a bitt cause that means we'll get less point differential from that game.

2 more hard games for us: Against Romania and against the Greek team, who will surely want go back home with a win.

As for the 2 slightely more easier games: the last game against Hanyuk will be a CT from Hanguk's side, since it will be their last game. All we can hope for is that they'll have used some enthousiasme before that so that we can win the game with a decent ammount of points, but right now, i'll settle for anything that will give Belgium a 7-1 record.

big win over Greek.

Our team shut them down completely. Cosimo gallagher was the highlight of the evening, going 7-7 from the field before jacking up a couple of 3's and missing an unmissable 2...

anyhow, this puts Belgium in the drivers seat. Next game is away against Jamaica. Belgian NT is already hiring extra body guards. Not to protect the players from violence, but to babysit em so that they don't end up smoking some weed and ending up to high to use for the game :D For each player, 3 body guards will be joining them, so that we can have em covered in shifts 8 hours.

See you all next week in the sunny Jamaica!

got home just in time to add a new C to the team. At long last, Sokmen seems to have found a home who can keep his GS up at a good lvl. It's good to see one of our top C's being able to be added to the team at long last. If only Cartier would find a good team that could manage his GS well...

Anyhow, we managed to beat Israel, and we've got a present in the next round. Other than the fact that we play Bosnia Herzegovina instead of Suomi ( Suomi is a very strong team!) we also have gotten HCA in the next round, something we wouldn't have gotten had we played Suomi. And here i was cursing my luck that Suomi had gotten Bosnia in the first round, where as i had ended up getting Israel :D

It hasn't gone unnoticed that Bosnia won their game on more enthusiasme, but i'll first do a decent investigation on the ratings to check the enthusiasm used, rather than making hasty conclusions. i wouldn't exclude Suomi having underestimated their opponents, because Bosnia doesn't look as impressive as Suomi, that is for sure. However, knowing that Latif Lupinac is a product from the Vottem training academy, we should be very carefully when facing Bosnia. They have got some top players, and they always go under the radar. I have in all my 8 seasons just underestimated a team once ( South Afirca in the consolation tourney a couple of seasons ago) and i don't intend on making the same mistake twice. So even tho we might seem to be the favorites, i won't declare Belgium to be the victor untill the fat lady sings ;)
