it's a bad idea to use a worse defender just because of higher experience.
the actual skill level is what matters. any effect from experience on defense is minimal at best.
(+6 in experience won't come close to making up +2 in OD)

wouldn't the 8 OD 4 SB be better than 10 OD 1 SB?

i would exchange 2 OD for 6 XP in any time, but not sure how much it pays of in defense or offense. But imho XP is very valuable.
