Is it better to spend three points on each player, or one point on more players, or a mix? Also, if I'm going to draft further back, should I scout the absolute best guys or guys a little down the list?
Heres what i do:
1. Use scouting combine first to to learn the ages and heights of all 48 players.
2. Count the number of 18 year old 1 and 2 ball prospects, if 10 or more use Group Demonstration.
3. Over the rest of the season i scout (1 point) each of the 18 year olds starting with the tallest (I train bigs). You can start with the shortest if you train guards. I usually leave the 6'4 to 6'8 guys last.
4. Once I have identified all 5 ball guys I then Interview them (2 pts) starting with the tallest.
Once you have identified the best 18 year old prospects you can arrange them according to personal preference. I usually try to get the best player regardless of height or position.
I normally spend for 2-3 points a week. Despite drafting middle of the pack last 8 drafts or so I've been able to get one of the best players available (highest salary) at least 5 times. Been lucky as well that they all had decent potential - lowest i think was perennial allstar. One of them made our U21 Team.
Pls note that this is my draft strat and may not necessarily apply to your needs or situation.
Hope this helps.
