One issue I think is hard to solve (without kicking out all us ABBLers :P) is that alot of the games are a bit uncompetitive. I'm not sure what the solution is (because noone in the ABBL wants another ABBL private league), but a thought I had was some kind of handicap system, whereby if a D2 team is playing an ABBLer they can nominate one (or two) players on the ABBL team to sit out. I'd be up for it, not sure if other ABBL teams would though.

the + is with handicapping the league gets more even so u can have more even teams

the - is some may forget, then what, some may refuse, some may be unhappy not being able to test their whole team in games, some may not like playing without their favourite players

the proposal

if a team is playing a team in a higher league they get to nominate 1 player by the end of tuesday in the week they play that they must sit out

if there are 2 levels difference (d3 v abbl) then the d3 team can nominate 2 players 2 sit out

my extra "fishy" amendment is to allow each team to nominate their favourite player @ the start of the season who is immune to being forced to sit out

Poll:  do you like the idea of having a voluntary handicapping system next season?

yes
yes (but with the fishy amendment)
no

The only reaon why I voted no is because there isn't yet a plan of how to devople that plan. Some teams need to go and some others need to stay. However, without a plan of how things will work, it's a simple no based on structure.

Now i may not have been an active player in this PL, however, I do believe its a great idea compareded to other PLs. Other PLs are based on just trying out new things or just competing against managers you may not get the chance to to play and compare yourself with. Therefor I am all for this type of PL.

The idea of a PL is that guys can play their best team without worrying about injuries, gameshape, training, etc... plus they can try different tactics. Telling someone they can't play their best players seems totally against the spirit of competition. I'm not sure if I'd really want to win just because my opponent couldn't play their best players, can't really see what that proves?

I might not be able to beat many ABBL teams, but I wouldn't want them to not be able to play their best team against me. I'd much rather take on their full team and see how I go. An enforced handicap seems a little ridiculous. Let it roll I say...

Yeah, I'm far from wedded to the idea, and I expected your view would be the prevailing view. And its a fair enough point.

It is just a concern to me that lower teams may lose interest if they are getting belted every week. Especially if we go to a two league format (its a bit hard to expect a D3 team to be competitive against a team like mine, when I've got 850K of wages...). But if teams are happy to test themselves against the top teams, then I'm happy to roll with it - I'll probably experiment with my lineups a bit more this season regardless.

We won't have many Div III teams left this season it seems. It's looking like matty8, bainsy, skyhookz, awesome, Axis, Brooksy and myself are all contenders to promote to Div II this season.

I may never get the chance to have some of my guys play ABBL at this stage, so I have no problems having them go head to head with the full strength ABBL teams...it lets me live the dream!

If people are keen though, I think Fishy's ideas are a pretty good middle ground

I like the handicap idea. If you want to play a PL where you want to observe tactics etc, then play in a different one. For me, this one is about the fun, the sense of community, and the range of different challenges it provides.

I don't see any harm in, at the least, giving it a shot. The worst that can happen is that we don't like it and we change back. Hopefully no lives will be lost in the process.

First world problems!!!

With having no experience in the fishbowl but wanting to become a very active member of the aussie community i was just thinking of writing down my opinon if that's okay? I presume it would be so here it goes.

Whether I am in div3 or the ABBL, I would like to think that my team is playing against the best, If they are losing against the best or beating the best it wouldnt matter. It would be a fun challenge to see how your team goes against the best teams across Australia, wouldnt it? Also as Matt pointed out it goes against the nature of competition. I would also like to think that the PL is a chance to get away from all the hassels of worrying about gameshape, training minutes etc. Isnt private leagues jus about having fun? I have only played a few PL games but already it is way more interesting than league games as all my trainees get to be on the court at the same time! I hardly get to see that, and i dont know how many of you guys get to seethis; not your best players, but your personal favourites. It would also suck seeing another coach say "sorry mate you can't play this player"

I still have much to learn but thats my 2 cents worth. I would not agree with the handicap rule. Although i do see where the other side is coming from that is why abigfishy's idea doesnt sound bad either if the handicap rule is put in place. At the start of the season you can nominate your favouite player (or whatever player you choose) to be immune from this handicap rule.

Thanks for reading guys
