Patient can exploit it the best. Move a player of out position SG-> SF or PF usually works best. If they have Man to Man, then your top outside scorer is shooting against their SF or PF (usually with much worse D). You'll want to change the D matchups to ensure your SG isn't guarding his SF or PF.

Analyse yours and opponents match ratings (perimeter shooting, inside shooting, perimeter defense, inside defense, rebounding, flow). Find mismatches, and hit him there. If there are no mismatches, try to use tactic that emphasise your strenghts.

Example: opponent has poor inside defense - use look inside, or low post.

I was curious, is there really any specific way to combat a man to man defense? Is there any offense that somehow exploits this defense? Thanks. Dr. Shaq


The best way to beat a man to man is to have the better man.

Repositioning an outside shooter to a big man slot and going with a patient is one thing you can do if the defense you're facing is completely superior to your offense.
