what i'd do is analyze how often he changes strategies over the course of his schedule against league opponents. If he doesn't change it ever, then maybe you can counter it by playing the strategy that it's weak against. The list is available in the large help topic if you don't know whats good against what. The only downside to this is lets say he's got a great defense inside and he wants to stop you from taking inside shots with a 2-3 zone. Well clearly you'd go to the outside, but what if your best talent is inside? You might be playing with your weaker players. I think for you given you have roughly 8 guys that are in that middle range in terms of salary, you probably wont have this problem. However, i'm not going to do the work of analyzing what your team does well, or what his strategies have been for you. If you are determined to outduel him, it should be you that makes the decisions, not I.
if you remember a while back the college team davidson had one great player (his name elludes me). They double teamed him all game ball or not, and played 4 on 3 and occasionally 4 on 2. they lost by 30, but he didn't beat them. I think it's much the same here. you cant expect two double teams to work well.
If you really want to try and beat him, then i suggest you set a budget of about 150-200k (whatever you feel you can afford to win this matchup), head out to the TL, and look for talent between 31 and 34 years old that can either play very good defense (say 15+) so that you can thwart his scoring threats, OR are a significant short term upgrade over one of your positions. You might still lose if you havent collected enough enthusiasm. thats another thing you have to look at too.
