I have to SG's. SG 1 has Prodigious Jump Shot and Prolific Jump Range. SG 2 has Tremendous JS and Prolific JR. Despite having a lower JR rating, SG2 is shooting much better this season (and last season) than SG 1.

My question: Is there a relationship between Jump Shot and Jump Range? Is the reason SG 2 is shooting much better than SG 1 because his JR and JS ratings are closer together?

That's certainly how it sounds like it should work, but statistical analysis done by Wozzvt strongly indicates that JR only helps on 3 pointers.

(I think you have to register)

Basically he takes a database of games and players and tests for statistical significance between the performance of different shot types and each player attribute. JR didn't affect any 2 point shots but it had an affect on 3pt shots that was similar to but more significant than the affect of JS.

The study divided all shots into 4 blanket categories: 3pt, 2pt jump shot, drive, and non-drive inside shot. So all that could be determined is a rough estimate for the effect of each skill point on shooting percentage, a standard deviation, and a statistical significance level. Distance was not considered.

Edit: Whether the shot was uncontested or contested was also considered but JR had a similar affect on both types of 3pt shots.

so one is for pters and the other is for regular shooting..

Let say you play outside iso. Would jump range play the heavy hand.. or would jumpshot skill play the heavier hand.

Or are you explaining they cordinate and the jr is the accuracy rating he has? But jumpshot helps somewhat

JS and JR both work together on 3 pointers. The interplay between them is unclear and their relative importance is also murky. All I can say with confidence is that you need both JS and JR to be a good 3 point shooter.

IMO in any offense JS is more important than JR because JS is by far the most important factor on 2pt shots, helps a lot on 3pt shots, and also plays a smaller role in contested inside shots. JR only helps on 3pt shots.
