I have been in serch of a big man and have also paid attention to raitings. Some seem out of balance compared to their stats. Here is an example I copied/Pasted from his career stats. It shows he produced very well as a PF avg 17.8pts in 41 mins per game with only a rating of 7...But his center ratings has less mins and pretty much less everything but has a a rating of nearly 12. I am new to really scouting players before i buy them and notice this quit often.

As Start PF 11 41.2 7.5 13.5 0.557 0.2 0.5 0.400 2.5 3.8 0.667 4.1 12.8 16.9 3.9 2.6 1.1 0.9 3.7 17.8 7.0
As Start C 99 31.5 4.2 8.2 0.518 0.0 0.3 0.097 1.6 2.5 0.658 3.7 9.1 12.9 3.1 1.5 0.8 1.1 2.9 10.1 11.6

Ratings can be pretty volatile and depend on a bunch of things, making them difficult to use in evaluating players to buy. I think it is much easier to only use attributes to evaluate a player (plus look at their fouls) until you are more experienced, as any perceived difference in rating is more likely going to be because of some hidden circumstance than because one player is better.

In this specific case, there is a big enough difference between a 7 and a 12 rating that most likely explanation is variance/sample size.

I would say he either faced better competition in the 11 games as PF, or his game shape was worse.
Also, he played 10 more minutes per game as PF. That will lower ratings as his stamina wears down.

If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.
