This might come off as arrogant and I apologize in advance, but I'm curious to know that if I intentionally go into a tiebreaker game in the finals, would I gain any profit?

Well since its 50/50 for every PO game you would make more money since it would be 3 games receiving 50% profit as opposed to 2 games receiving any money.

In short, yes going into game 3 of the finals results in more money.

Din't it used to be that if you don't have a game in the final financial period you don't pay the player salary that week. Did they change that, or is it still true?

That's what I thought, too. Which makes it not profitable at all to force a third game. That's why they put that rule in in the first place to discourage people from throwing playoff games on purpose.

The third game of the finals takes place on Sunday, and therefore in the same economic week as games 1 and 2. If you make the finals, you aren't getting any week off from paying player salaries.

It does effect the relegation series, if that is what you are considering.

That's interesting. You're right. I didn't realize that. I guess my own experience in a similar situation was in a relegation series so I thought same rule applied here. Maybe they need to look into fixing it since it would normally be a Tuesday game.

I don't see it as really being broken. Certainly not to the point of adding a 15th week into every season just to make room for one possible game.

As it is, teams in the finals pay salaries every week of the season since they play every week.

If a team wants to risk losing out on promotion by intentionally tanking a game in order to get a third game where both teams earn half the ticket revenue, I don't see that as being that big of a deal.

For relegation series it more often is the case that one team completely outclasses the other (especially since one could be a bot) so there really may not be much, if any, risk to forcing the series to a third game. There is seems to be a good thing that having a third game means paying salaries for another week.

I didn't say they should add a week, but maybe just count that last game as part of the next financial week. So, if you don't have a game there then maybe you only pay half the salary next week for the Saturday game. That would be more consistent and fare. I mean I beat my previous two opponents in the playoffs by 30 and 20 points and the next one isn't much better, I don't think. So, this definitely got me thinking now if I shouldn't do it. Plus, I just realized that I can put some of my players up for sale on Thursday, that I don't plan on keeping for next season, and avoid paying a week of salary without any risk of being caught with my pants down for the last game. Maybe they would be better of running that last update on Sunday morning instead. Not sure if it's possible logistically but it would make more sense for sure.
