To open up season 23 the English NT program will once again be holding the annual NT training camp. As a special feature of this years camp a select few of the very top younger prospects will also be brought in to get some experience with the big boys. Invitees are not listed in any specific order.

It's great to see that over half of the invitees are owned by English managers! Over the first few days of camp we'll narrow the list and choose a team captain for the season, make your voice heard here and on the offsite.

So first up do we have any nominations for team captain this season?

Sharpling is an obvious candidate again and James Gascoigne looks like a future captain, but for this campaign I'd give the nod to big Lawrence MacKenzie.

He's got a veteran manager to look after his game shape, can play several tactics and at 31, it's kind of now or never for big Mac.

I was thinking about this last night (I know I lead an interesting life!). I came to the same conclusion as Elmacca, it's definately true that some are perhaps more worthy, but it is kinda Mac's season to shine on this one. He gets my vote too.

I would say Big Mac too.

Well it seems to be pretty clear cut, Lawrence "Big Mac" MacKenzie will be our team captain for season 23!

And now on to who makes "week" two of tryouts, we really cut back on guys, all of them left are serious players:

Also a special shoutout for Brendan Mackay and Michael Andrews, who are both on teams that appear to be going bot. They'd both be on these lists if they weren't, if they do go bot they'd both be great pickups if you're looking for a potential NT player(though Andrews needs about 1 more season of training).

Can I ask how many of the forwards will make the team?

Hopefully Elmo can do me proud in the tryouts!

Hmm, I'm not sure yet, but I'd say the opening roster will probably have a max of 3 of the forwards on it.

And since he was on sale I forgot to double check Coates >< He too will make the 2nd week of tryouts.

Connor Anderson should be a captain one day. Versatile player who gives it all and commendable effort to retain him by a DII team.

He would indeed be another worthy choice.

And some of you may have noticed that a roster has been chosen! Well, don't get too excited, because this opening roster is not The opening roster. We're just trying something a little different for our scrimmage with Canada next monday, though I'm sure many of the players will overlap.

i'd drop all players and select em based on GS. make a shortlist of 12 players, who you expect to make it, and keep room for those. then select 3 or 4 others if GS would require it in the beginning. once that is done, you can move forth and it makes sure that you got good GS on your players ;)

So we open with Poland on Monday and I'll be making final roster decisions tomorrow, if anyone has any input feel free to bbmail me :)
