Does it make sense to train game shape for the first week in order to get a jump start on other teams? Or would it be more beneficial to just train something else?

If by the first week you mean tomorrow, no, because all players will have their game shape at respectable still. After that, it's up to you - I'd probably prefer FT or stamina if not training anything else but that's just an opinion.

Training game shape is practically useless. Train something else.

The only time I train GS is during the playoffs if one of my key players gets too many minutes and I'm afraid that his drop in GS can result in a loss for me.
