I don't like forfeits, even if I benefit from them. Forfeits skew point differentials and screw with training minutes, and they're irritating because there's really no BB without meaningful games.

I'd like to see the following two safeties put into place. The second is far more problematic to implement than the first:

1) All teams must maintain a roster of 7 or 8 players minimum at all times.

I dislike having too many restrictive rules. I like the idea of owners being able to experiment with their roster composition. But I just played a team the owner of which had not been on in over a month, had sold off all of its players, and only had the three draftees from the offseason on it. There was no lineup set, so of course the team forfeited. I know that BB isn't the NBA, but NBA teams must dress 8 players for every game, so I don't think employing this rule in BB is too much to ask. If a team really wants to find a way to play 5 players only for the entire season, they'll do it. They can keep three minimum salary players on their bench just in case.

2) There should be an override if a team doesn't have a default lineup ready to go.

I don't know how this would be implemented. The problem is the beginning stage where an owner disappears and hasn't set a lineup. This shouldn't be put in place for a team with an active owner, as opposed to an owner that abandons his team. But there's no way to tell the difference.

I believe that when dealing with forfeits the game engine should automatically set up the lineup as the last game played by the forfeiting team in which they dressed at least 3 players. It would be a nice way of saying "F*** your forfeit!".
