Hi all,

By season end I plan to have a good sized arena:
15000
2000
500
25
I have a basic PR.

What prices make sense for a team that is playoff bound likely championship contender? Coming off of a playoff year?

Also with my arena built to a pretty good size, would having a level 4 PR guy make more sense?

Something close to this:

Bleachers: $7-10
Lower Tier: $25-35
Courtside: $75-100
Luxury Boxes: $700-900

The lower numbers are if you are in the middle of the pack, while the higher number are for people in 1st place.

Having a level 4 PR-manager would help your attendance, so if you have the money to pay the weekly salary, go for it.

This is an enormous arena for Div IV. With the expansion that you currently have being built I would say you wouldn't have to build anymore until you were getting ready to promote from Div. III into Div II. Maybe a few more courtside and lower tier but that would be it. Since you just promoted you are receiving the fan attendance bonus and are selling out your arena. This boost will last until around the allstar break and then your attendance will be more based on how your team is performing. My suggestion would be to sit tight with your arena and change the seat prices accordingly and then bank all your money you are making. If you can go into div III with a million dollars banked you will be in great shape to compete for a div III title fairly quickly.

I concur. If they are going to build any more seats, the bleachers should be the last to be expanded - if the team ends up getting to III and then holds on as a mid-tier team for several seasons, filling that many bleachers would become a difficult proposition.

Here is my dilemma.
There was a Div III team that tanked this season into my league. He has a really good roster that I doubt I can beat out for a title shot this year. However, no one else in my division looks challenging for season 24 because they don't have the current players or income to support making a run at the title. So my plan is to compete enough to get into the playoffs this season and then go for the title next season. Anyway, my trainees are two seasons away from being competitive and I want some homegrown starters.

So I am earning 150,000 a week before cup games. If I expand to 15,000 bleachers I should be able to sell each seat at $8 per. This should keep my income around that $150,000 mark for the remainder of the season. By season end with my other planned expansions I should have around $500,000 to spend on free agents during the playoffs. This should be enough to buy me two quality Div4 starters.

Even with those roster additions, because of my expansions I should average $125,000 per week in earnings for season 24. By the end of the season I should have roughly $1.5 million to upgrade my roster going into season 25.

Anyhow, from the way I see it each seat expansion is worth 40% more than the original seat. In other words each bleacher is worth $4 by virtue of expanding. Therefore it takes around 50 weeks to earn enough money to pay for the expansion as long as you are close to either selling out or having just a few empty seats. However, you are getting the return on the investment weekly.

5000 to 15,000 = 40,000 per week.
500 to say 4500 = 56,000 per week
50 to 500 = 18,000 per week
0 to 30 = 9,600 per week

So in the most extreme case assuming both the lowest amount of seats and the highest amount of seats are priced optimally, the higher amount of seats should earn a team $123,600 more per week (when playing in the same division). Considering I am halfway to having an optimal expansion, I still have roughly $62,000 more I could earn per week.

Of course the key note of all this is that I will not be able to win my league this year. If I could win, the money would be better spent on ensuring I get the title because I would earn more per seat, get more merchandise, and more TV contract. But since I can't win this year, I see no better way to spend my money.

I don't really follow all your math on this, but I think you are basing your calculations on selling out every game by reducing your ticket prices as you build more seats. Trust me this doesn't work. In BB ticket sales are mostly affected by two factors. The first is team perfomance in the games before your next home game (usually an away game). If you are the best team in your league, then you shouldn't have any problem winning your games and keeping your fans happy. The second factor is the unrealistic curse that the BuzzerBeater gods have decided to place on the top teams in each conference. For some reason your fan attendane is also closely tied to the quality of your opponent. So even though you are undefeated and your fans are singing your praises, if you play the bottom teams at home, your ticket sales are going to suffer. I promise you will not sell out against the 8th, 7th and maybe even the 6th place teams if you are the number 1 team.

So because of this I would say bank as much money as you can, find a good arena price calculator (there is one on the NT database site) and just change the ticket prices without adding more seats and you will do well.

I'm gonna take your advice and stop building bleachers. But I'll probably build more lower tier instead as the price is more stabilized.

I've done enough calculations to conclude that the more seats available the more income gathered. The payback on each seat is between 20-60% of the avg ticket price (100 for courtside so between $20-$60 per extra seat per game).

Someone could do a litmus test on this by looking at unsold out ticket averages over hundreds of stadiums in the same division.

I am pretty sure the higher the amount of seats the lower the percentage of return. However this could be verified as well.
