It was halftime. The USA U21 had struggled all half against the scrappy Egyptians, and looked a little shell-shocked. Fewmit had gone from annoyed to frustrated to hysterical, and was now befuddled in his office, trying to think of something to tell the troops to bring them out of their daze. He thought back to the legacy of the U21 team, and the great history of men to take the mantle as coach. Men such as RamboVT. And Magiker. And RamboVT. And he realized what had to be done. As he stood in front of his team, an eery silence feel over the locker room. He spoke:
Sons of Washington, of Jefferson, my brothers!
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of Men fails
When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship
But it is not this day
An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Man comes crashing down
But it is not this day!
This day we fight!
By all that you hold dear on this good earth
I bid you stand, Men of the West!
A great cheer rose from the squad and they charged out of the locker room, invigorated, and proceeded to pummel the Egyptians into oblivion for the remaining 24 minutes while Fewmit watched with a shadow of a smile on his face. When the dust settled, the USA had scored a 110-82 win
(24010), led by Leon Cohen's 11-13, 23 point performance.
Jared Carnes continued his stellar play, and Johnny Lewis (formerly Juan Lewis, and Juan Luis before that) was highly efficient and American in every way off the bench.
Mark "Showtime" Horner gets the MVP though. He scored a pivotal bucket in the fourth quarter to take the lead from 24 to 26, and also was on or near the court for almost every single basket made by the USA. This is his third MVP award in two games.
The USA seem to be hitting their stride in this Worlds campaign. Tune in next Monday as we take on China! Unless you're from the INS. In which case I have some papers to shred....
