Hi there,

So I've been playing BB for a number of seasons (actually had a team a few years back for a couple seasons as well, then left for a long time and came back), and the thing I've found most satisfying and enjoyable is training and developing my own homegrown Aussie talent. I had a member of the U21 team a few seasons back that I'm hoping will push on to National duties, and a few other young guys I'm bringing along now. The problem is, I don't really know exactly the best way to go about it :S

Could I please get some advice on how to structure and continue my training, with my current lineup of potential trainees? My main objectives, in order of priority, would be:

1) Train Dwight Catic for the NAT side
2) Train up young draftees for the U21 team
3) Train and nurture personally drafted talent (possibly towards U21 or national team down the track)
4) Long term team success

Here are their stats:

Dwight Catic (22819242)

Stats available upon request so as not to assist foreign scouts (his stats at age 23 are on the offsite, not that anybody goes there :()

So I'm guessing that Goodes isn't U21 material, and I'm not sure that vdH is either (please correct me if I'm wrong?)

As for my trainees, I was thinking to sell Knell as that HD and IS are atrocious, not sure on Dodd as age 19 means he's too old for U21 and won't sell at a great value (I guess), but could be a decent team member ... and then train Catic, Phillips and ... ?

Or another way of putting it:

I have the three players I've been training: catic, goodes, and vdH.

I've drafted Phillips, Dodd, and knell.

A) Based on my priorities, who do I train? Catic, Phillips, and ... ?
B) what do I do with the other three, sell/keep/fire?
C) how should I train them? Some sort of schedule would be appreciated rather than my haphazard training of whatever big guy skill I think they need most (last season that was pretty much all ID)

I really want to train well and contribute not only to my own team but also towards Australia, but I just don't know how to optimise that ...

Thanks for any help that you can offer to any/all of my questions.

If your goal is to have a player in the NT side, keep training Catic, Goodes and VDH. I wouldn't bother with the others unless your committed to another U21 player.

Send or post me Catics skill set and ill write up a training plan.

Thanks for the input kilrtom, but it didn't quite straighten it out for me ...

I don't have interest in training up two senior nat team players, it would take too long and I have no idea if I could support the salaries.

Of higher priority would be my secondary goal to have another u21 player, so to follow:

Is goodes u21 material, yes/no? I'm pretty sure it's no.
Is vdH u21 material, yes/no? I think no, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Are any of my draftees u21? Personally, I think Phillips is a yes, would anyone agree?

That would make Phillips my 2nd priority, the questions that follow then are:

How do I combine my training goals of getting catic to nat team and Phillips to u21?
Who would I bring along as my 3rd trainee?
What do I do with the other 3? (this one I can kind of answer, I was leaning towards sell/fire knell, keep Dodd, and maybe sell one of goodes/vdH ?)

Thanks again if anyone can help me sort out this quandary, once I've got the lineup/trainees sorted I can work out/ask for help with the specific training plan,

Goods ID is good but IS and Reb let him down.
General rule is 12 for those 2 skills at least for bigs.

TV is going to struggle also.

But with both these guys you never know. But I doubt it. Will be good players long term for you if you get their build more balanced.

Phillips could for sure. Focus on IS, RB and ID and get it going. Got to get all to 12 at least. He is about the same levels there as my guy who just finished 2 seasons in 21 NT side. But again his JS/Jr is a issue and could hold him back. Will need to be very strong in others to get over the line.

Dodd too late at 19 to make it in 21 NT

Knell could become a good outside focused SF. Get OD to 12+, ID to 10+ then focus on JR/JS. But his potential means he may fall short.

I would focus on Phillips and the top 2. Would give you 3 good Bigs for your side and Phillips could make 21 Nt side.
If you want more of a training plan pm and I can give you some tips to get him there.

My opinion on who is U21 material (assuming all are Australian).

Shane Goodes very unlikely but you will know very soon, sometimes there are few big men to pick from.

Tobias van den Hout one season to go also very unlikely, also needs a ton of rebounding.

Wilbert Phillips has horrible secondaries but rock solid primaries and great height, he is a great chance.

Duke Dodd and Homer Knell have too low potential I would not train them unless you plan for an entire season of rebounding (would be good for Goodes, Hout and wouldn't hurt Phillips) and they can be trainees four and five.
