So I am a little unsure on what the Group demo and scouting combine do. they sound the same to me. Are they? If not what is the difference and is it worth it to do both

Group demo is actually scouting only 1 or 2-ball prospects. So yes, it's like scouting them. If you use group demo, they are already scouted, so you can't scout them again (you can interview them).
You can scout the other players (3, 4 or 5 balls prospects) one by one.

The Scouting Combine will tell you the age and heights for all 48 players in the upcoming draft. Age and height is something that otherwise only be found out by interviewing a player.
The Group Demonstration allows you to Scout (which means finding out the player's Star Rating, Position and Boxscore) the last 19 players on your initial draft list. Since it normally costs 1 scouting point to Scout a player, this is nearly getting to scout these players at half the cost. Given that the initial order of players is either completely random or nearly completely random, there can be some very good players in your initial bottom 19.
Whether it is worth doing either is a personal opinion and depends upon a lot of factors. The Combine can be a good way to find all of the 18 year-olds. The Group Demo is a way to Scout a larger group of players more cheaply. Some people will do the Combine first and then if there are 10 or more 18 year-olds in the group of 19 players do the Group Demo. If there are fewer, they may decide to just scout those specific players individually.

So if i did the combine it scouts all players. And the group demo only scouts 1-2 ball prospects. Wouldn't that be a waste of money?

The combine doesn't "Scout" any of the players. It only gives you information about their age and height. Nothing more.
If you want to learn their Star rating (current skills), Position and see a box score, you will still need to "Scout" those players.
If you don't do the combine, to learn age & height, you would need to Interview a player after Scouting him. The interview would also provide a Potential rating as well as a Grade rating (really a fine tuning of the Star rating).
