Is it ideal to expand arena each week? I read through the Newbie Guide on the forums recently about arena expansion. Two things I am trying real hard not to do is over expand and under expand. I am currently using buzzer-manager arena management tool to help me out a bit. I also notice the more I expand the more my average percent of attendance drops. In this situation I know that I will have to play with my ticket prices a bit. My problem is that when I change my ticket prices and begin to expand my arena my average attendance will drop. What methods can I use to set an optimal ticket price that can get me the most out of my expansions until I am able to change the ticket prices again?

Join the offsite

They have an arena one that can ... Somewhat predict ideal for you, and you can enter in more seats than you have, ie plan out the extensions long term and set prices for that

Sounds cool. I am already a member of the offsite but never investigated enough to find such tool. Thanks!

P.S. If anyone has any other ideas don't be afraid to enlighten me :)

I don't believe it is ideal to expand your arena every week. I would tell you to aim for an arena size of 8k-8.5k by the time you are ready to promote to D4. You might want to have an arena that looks like this for D4:

Bleachers: 7000
Lower Tier: 1000
Courtside: 200
Luxury Boxes: 5-10

That should be an ideal arena size.

I wouldn't worry too much about over expansion.

First of all, go through the top teams in Div 5 (not just in your Div all Div 5's). See what it takes to sell out luxury boxes at 400. I think the number is 17 seats. Then build 15 more luxury boxes. That will cost $240,000 but after you do that you will not have to worry about pricing or building anymore until you are out of Div 5. Do the exact same thing with courtside seats. It will probably be around 300 seats.

Once you have those two expanded fully, you can forget about worrying about pricing vs expanding. Since those seats also are the most likely to sell out each game, you will get a stable income from the expansions.

As for the lower/bleach, do the same as above except your goal will not be to expand to max. You will have to judge. Just base pricing on top teams in Div 5. I know it takes a lot of research but it can help you price as the off-site predictors tend to be a bit less accurate. You might be able to use the buzzer-manager for that. It seems to be a pretty decent predictor.

Before you advance to Div 4, keep in mind that pricing jumps once you get there and you get a promotion bonus to ticket sales if you win your Div.

I am not disagreeing with your strategy, but I will point out a simple calculation that might be helpful, too.

Selling 20 luxury boxes at $400/game is the same as selling 10 for $800/game, and if you can do the latter then you don't have to spend the money to build 10 more boxes and you earn the same amount every week.

So knowing how high the market will go on your current seats can be very valuable information. Long ago, I built up to 20 boxes but I usually only sell 12 or 13. I realized I could push the price up higher on those 12 or 13 to make as much or more than I would pushing the price down to try to fill all 20. The money I already spent to build them is lost anyway and doesn't get recouped just because I lower the price to fill the seat.

Anyway, just wanted to point that out because sometimes you don't have to expand when you can raise prices instead. If you can get the same income and not spend the money building more seats yet, why not?

Build as much as possible early on. Later you will spend most on your money on players and than it is difficult to save money for your arena!

I really agree with a lot of what McFatties said here but I am going to take it a step further.

There really is no over expansion. Unless you are talking 30k seating there isn't one. If I could do it all over again I would shoot for an arena with 13k bleachers, 7k lower tier 500 court side and 50 luxury boxes.

Keep in mind, it gets a lot harder to designate revenue towards arena the higher in division you go. If I could do it again I would do all of my arena while in D4 or D5, grab a couple of great trainees and build the hell out of them.

I saw the argument of 20 luxury boxes for 400 vs 10 at 800. I will tell you first hand that it doesn't work that way. Lower prices allow people that wouldn't normally be able to buy a 800 dollar luxury box buy a 400 dollar luxury box. So if 10 people are willing to pay 800 bucks for a luxury box then 23 or 24 maybe willing to pay 400. Sounds like minuscule gains but when you are setting a budget at the D2 or D3 level, it makes a big difference.

I have a pretty nice arena and it is a weapon against finances in my opinion. I demoted to D3 to do it but I now have an advantage over 99% of D3 teams once I get past the demotion penalty.
