For me, age or skill level doesn't matter as much as potential as I plan to keep them on my team long-term. So I am only reviewing potential

From my study, drafting last in Div4...there are about 6% of the players available with a P-All star or better potential. Or around 2 picks. Of those most of them will be 19 and lower skilled.

In Div III picking number 9 results in a chance of around 12% that the remaining players are P-Allstar or better. Or around 4 picks. I expect to be in Div III next season while barely making the playoffs.

So my question here is this>
Do I bank all my draft points into next season because I double my chance to find the player I want?
Or
Do I take some points in Div 4 to do a group demo and then use a few more points to look for a high potential player. While saving the rest for Div III
Or
Do I do as option 2 but spend all my points looking for a couple high pot players in case one gets drafted before me?

I like option 1 overall. But it requires saving money for two seasons with no up front reward potential. However, it increases the chances of drafting 1 high potential player with a better skill set/age where as option 2 or 3 results in a better chance of drafting 2 high potential players with lessor skills likely.

Personally, I don't spend any draft points unless I have a top half pick (depending on circumstances, I sometimes won't spend unless I have a top 4 pick too). From there, it is probably best to spend until you find a player you like and continue to bank points for the next few seasons. I tend to spend points only once every 2-4 seasons.

I agree. My thing is don't spend points unless you're in the bottom third or are in D.V

agreed. i have 34 pts right now. Not planning on spending them unless i have a TOP 3 pick. I'm treating my pts like gold and I will treat them like that so i can get a 'gold' type player (hopefully a NT caliber player)

Yes it may not be the best idea but I will have 40+ pts by the end of the season and around 75 if I tank in Div 3. If I plan on trying to promote to D2 around S30 I can save pts then too, and have around a hundred when i get in div 2 (which I know i will absolutely tank out)

just my plan, others don't have to do that plan. I just don't want to go thru a draft and get no one (which I know, there is still a chance of not getting a gold type player, but with more points, the higher your chances are)

IDK man, I'm in DV and I've already found 2 5/4 ball 18 yo's. My league (D4) the year before had like 3 MVP prospects in it in addition to all the 4 balls. I think it's just a luck thing, you can look up the league draft histories and look at all the players.

Like this draft: http://www.buzzerbeater.com/league/53/draftSummary.aspx Just a random one there was two MVPs (19 but still) and probably 4-5 PA-SS guys. Some of those guys were picked in the last round (one of the PA was second to last) Someone who invested in the draft could have left with two MVPs and a SS if they picked first. (Talk about getting money.)

Or what about this draft (the most stacked I've ever seen; one of my old teams had the #1 pick in this draft). http://www.buzzerbeater.com/league/341/draftSummary.aspx?... 4 18yo's with MVP+ potential, including 1 HOF (27254340) and 1 ATG (27254381), to go with the two players (27254384) and (27254348). I could theoretically have walked away with HOF, ATG, and MVP 18yos with my three draft picks, had I known then what I know now and if my altered picks had not changed the other teams' draft boards (obviously a little bit of a stretch). That would have had to be the single best draft of all time, I would think.

To further show how stacked that draft was, there were these high-potential players in addition to the ones already listed:
1 18yo SS: (27254343)
1 18yo PAS: [player= 27254360]
1 HOF 19yo: (27254372)
3 PAS 19yos: (27254349), (27254365), (27254385)

Obviously most drafts aren't this good.

Reading that post made me want to use my points and so I did and the first player I scouted/interviewed is a 5/5 A+. Fingers crossed now

Yes, and that was very lucky and very nice for that one season. There are way too many leagues to even mention where that same season, their drafts had not a single grade A draftee.

I wouldn't have posted that here if you are in a competitive league, everyone who sees it will be scouting now.

If you have a lot of active managers, especially active tankers in your league then you generally have an good ieda that they'll be spending a lot of draft points. So in those cases you'd generally be better off waiting until you promote to use your draft points and even spending points on the group demo will likely end up being a complete waste in that scenario.
