I have thought long and hard before putting my name forward for the U21 manager post. Here are the credentials I bring to this position.
- I have been in this game for 5 years
- I have been up to the EBBL for a few seasons and deliberately dropped out to focus solely on developing two players for the NT
- Both my trainees have been through the U21 teams and are well placed in training towards NT quality
- I have worked behind the scenes on the U21 staff and am extremely committed to the development of quality English players
- I am the admin on the offsite forums
- I am LA on the English BB site which proves BB consider me to be very active
- I have worked with Morwood managing the depth chart, advising training schedules, working on game tactics and supporting him as U21 manager as much as I could for the last 4 seasons.
- I know the current crop of players from 19 to 21 more than anyone with the exception of Morwood
As U21 manager I believe the main job is not simply to win games, but to support teams to train better players; balanced players, without freaking them with high primaries and terrible secondaries. I would be doing both you and the NT a disservice if I was to advise purely with winning U21 games at heart (personally I prefer balanced players over freaks anyway). With this in mind I would be looking to develop a team of people with training expertise to help support the whole community towards developing strong English players. Doing this will help teams financially, help teams in their league success and also help the NT become a force to be reckoned with in years to come.
I'll deal with whatever comes up in the debate thread, feel free to ask me questions there.
