Just curious, what skill level would you want on your bigs to consider playing Princeton? i'm considering playing it after i have trained my bigs because i love bigs that can pass, and this offence seems like it would suit them, also would a big with great PA average a lot of assists in princeton given the team around him can score ofc.

Whatever you have, you want more. ;)

But more helpfully, you want a pretty solid level of driving, handling, passing, JS and JR on the bigs. It doesn't have to reach the levels you'd have for a guard in an outside offense - especially against M2M defenses with three-skill donkey big men guarding them. But if you run that exclusively you'll see a lot of 3-2 and you'll want to either be able to shoot effectively against the guards you'll face, or more likely have the driving and enough IS to convert driving baskets in that scenario.

So is the princeton offence a more outside shooting based offence or is it a motion type offence? So if i did come up against a 3-2 zone my guys would exploit the inside i'd hope lol.

Also what is the speed of a princeton offence? is it a slow paced strategy like patient for example?

To answer the last question first, it's a slow, slow, slow offense. Officially it's an outside/slow in terms of the GDP function, but I can't emphasize enough how very slow it is.

In terms of the shot selection, it really depends. It will shoot a lot of threes if they are open (or if nothing else comes up by the end of the shot clock) but you'll also get a fair number of drives to the basket if you have that skillset. The one area it doesn't really do much is the pure inside shot - you may get some on offensive boards or if a big man gets stuck with it down low or occasionally an assisted dunk. There's also a decent number of jump shots that aren't for three.

The theory is that against a zone, there should be more drives to try to attack that, but if the team you're facing still has good interior defense that might end up not working. One thing I've noticed against the 3-2 in particular is that the PF/C end up having to defend a fair number of mid-range jumpers, and that seems to be another primary source of scoring if the driving doesn't pay off.

While the tactic can be very difficult to contain when it works, since everyone can pick up assists and hit outside shots, when it doesn't work it can fail spectacularly. I joke sometimes that I can expect at some point in every game to score maybe two to four points in some six minute stretch - which isn't devastating because the slow pace and my team's defense often means that it's not a big deficit in that period.
