I know ideally, winning every game is good and especially both against your rival and all TV matches. The manual says that winning TV matches is good for merchandise income.

However, if one had to choose, which one should you focus to win? Winning the TV matches or against league rival?

It depends on the schedule. If your rivalry game is the last game of the first part of the season, winning that gets you the good rating the rest of the season since the last game doesn't really matter for postseason attendance. The TV games sometimes work out so that you can afford to tank one since the interconference one is a few weeks later (and maybe at home). I think in most cases the rivalry game is more likely to be worth focusing on but it's not going to be a 100% case.

There are some additional factors to take into account to decide which game you're focussing on like hrudey is saying, the place in the schedule is one of them. The amount of games you get the benefit (or penalty) for is important, so if you have another TV game coming up soon it's usually better to focus on the rival game. Another factor could be if either of the games is right before a home game and the other isn't. In isolation however (all things equal), I'd say go for the TV-game because I image that will have a bigger impact.
