I'm running for NT coach again. Last term, the main goal was player development, and I think we made good strides and we're continually improving in that area. I've spent a lot of time working with the managers of our best prospects, and I really think we're developing the types of players it takes to beat the best teams in the world. I think we have a ton of great prospects that are 25+ and receiving their final few seasons of training, and I'm excited to see what this team looks like 3 seasons down the road. I really think we need to continue this journey.
My hopes of competing for a semifinal were dashed quite early when we drew a group including China, Poland, Czech Republic, and Italy. Those 4 teams finished in the top 5 spots in the final pool. I don't think that has ever happened before, so we essentially landed in the most lopsided group ever. We lost on a fluke play at the end of the first game to China, the eventual champion, so I don't think we're completely outclassed by these teams. But we clearly don't have the results to show otherwise. Last season was a bad mix of bad luck, worse players, and poor tactical decisions.
This next term's main goal will still be player development. We need to keep working on adding secondary skills to both guards and bigs, to make players that can defend and score against the best players on the best teams. Willing to answer any and all questions, so fire away in the debate thread. Thanks.
