To be honest, I don't think I did anything special that got me to NBBA ... stuck to a long term training plan, be patient (very patient), and hope for a few lucky breaks along the way.

Training has not been strong for me. One good draftee. Last season, I got 2 points everyweek and still got nobody decent. Oh well.

Are you trying to build a team of just drafted players? That can be tough starting out since the draft is so random. How about training local US players? You should be able to find some good US trainees on the TL. Also remember, they really don't need to be very high potential. I think allstar (or even star) level is enough to get going. You can always move any of those trainees to backup role or sell them when you find that ideal player in the draft. The idea is to keep training and constantly improve your roster. Hope that helps.
