It could be cool to add a staff member that scouts the other teams in your league. You can get a weekly scouting report that reveals anywhere from like 1-3 individual skills of opposing players in your league per week. Buying a higher level scout can allow you to see more skills revealed per week, can reveal the more important skills and/or have better chance of having the best opposing players in your league skills revealed. Perhaps the skills revealed are not necessarily exact, but could be within 1-2 of the actual skill level depending on the level of the scout.

It can be worked out so not too much is revealed, but just enough to add a small advantage to the people willing to pay for that staff member. You can max the amount of skills any one manager can learn about a single player and/or single team. Anybody have any other modifications to this? Good idea?

No, Its fun to not know.
There isn't a sports management game that should have it.
You try to guess your way through the game. The only way teams should find
out players skills is to look
around at the players in their league who are up for sale.

Yea, I definitely get that. Actually doing the scouting yourself is fun and can separate the better managers from the weaker ones. I do still think that learning a skill or two for lets say 10-15 players on average per year is not going to eliminate that aspect, and would just add another fun, small facet to the game.

i like the concept but im going to change it slightly.

instead of revealing player stats, You could have them reveal team info. eg: how much they are paying for staff, what their scouting expenditure is, merchandise.... or perhaps find out their training history, what they have their training set to, etc etc .

just thinking out loud really.

Not that I'm a fan of this idea, or necessarily in favor of what I'm about to suggest, one other avenue might be that higher level of "league scouts" would improve the effectiveness of your GDP predictions or reduce the consequences of a miss (combined with a pretty solid dampening across the board of the GDP's effect).

My suggestion was also more of a thinking out loud thing. And I think both your and hrudey's thoughts are interesting as well.
