Hey guys.
I was thinking todayoabout how TV rights get larger as u move up the divisions. All other costs tend to remain the same which is fine however I think scouting points should be scaled across the divisions.

That is - Div IV scouting points are cheaper than Div III points which are cheaper to Div II etc.

current prices would probably match Div III..

I just think that a Div IV team which has less capability for a profit margin has to pay the same price for scouting points as a higher div team who can generate income much more readily.

I feel that this would also provide a hinderence for higher division teams tanking and getting the benefit of a good draftee during their tank. At least it would cost them more in the long run if they chose to do so.

yes you are right - draft investment is the same across divisions at the moment..... and my comment of 'greater profit margin' was probably not quite right in what i meant, i guess lets just focus on TV income. Higher divisions = higher TV income.

In general, there isnt really any major factor about my idea, there isnt really any major benefit or major dis-advantage, its just something that i thought was a bit odd in the way the economy is setup.

With regards to the tanking benefit, it isnt a silver bullet as such, it just means that, froma total cost perspective, if at the moment a tanker only has to spend $10k per week to save enough points to be able to draft the #1 pick in their tanking season, - then maybe if that changed to be, $20k per week, their tanking does not realise as much benefit overall.

as a total different topic, i start doing some work for a French Oil and Gas company called Total, who are here in Perth. and everyone is French! This might not seem that strange to most people, but here in Australia, France is very far and in general, we get very few French speaking people here, so it is really quite different dealing with LOTS of French.

anyways! Totally off topic! haha.

What happens if a user buys a lot of scouting points while in IV/V, but doesn't spend them because they are near the top of the league every season, and in a few seasons is in II with over 100 draft points and able to scout the whole draft, while teams who have been in II already running on the edge of breakeven can't afford to scout?

As far as your initial paragraph, though, all other costs absolutely do not remain the same -- although the TV revenue is higher, the salary floor increases at a higher rate as you go up divisions. The cost of competing is much higher.

I don't think it would address tanking in any significant way - the teams who are tanking would be the only ones willing to spend the extra cost to buy scouting points, while it would make the draft even less relevant for everyone else. In that sense, it might arguably make the tank to drop a division, buy a title (and scouting points) and then promote up and tank again cycle more attractive. It'd still be stupid, of course, but people are often attracted to stupid - see reality TV.
