My next opponent in the cup has 8 players in his squad, practically all of them on inept game shape, and has a tendency of playing Full Court Press defense (which to me seems like a bad idea in itself having such a limited roster but that's beside the point).

I'm thinking that Push The Ball would be the best way to go in order to:
1. get his players tired more quickly (my starters and reserves are quite solid and all have good game shape/stamina)
2. counter the FCP by limiting the amount of dribbles/passes and therfore potential turnovers

Our squads are quite balanced when it comes to inside and outside scoring/defense so I'm thinking about PTB rather than Run and Gun or Look Inside.

Anyone care to comment if my thinking is correct?

The right tactic is your call. Look at the Sb, reb, asst. to ratio for his team vs yours . Then Do the long math then chose your tactic.

Generally my advice on this is that against FCP, you play your best offense and you'll do just fine against it unless you have horrible handling and passing. With this guy's limitations, though, I could make a case for something like LI, which is also fast paced but might help draw more fouls and help exploit the rebounding advantage you get from him running FCP. Of course, since the game was yesterday, I think what you ended up doing was just fine. ;)

Thanks for your feedback, it turned out I could have easily TIE-d the game and still would have won by a comfortable margin...

I went with Push The Ball for the reasons I described above and I realize that in this case pretty much any tactic would have worked fine (opponent with four starters on inept game shape and one on mediocre).

I was looking for a general rule (if there is one) about how to best exploit FCP, specifically about the pace of the offense which I should choose. Found a thread on the forum where this question was asked and it seemed some managers were saying a slow-paced offense would work best while others said fast-paced (which seems more convincing to me)... Thought I'd run it by you guys to see your opinion.

At this stage my team is slightly better playing an outside offense but I'm working in a direction where I hope to improve inside offense as well, so I can always have a choice on what to play and be able to change my offensive strategy often in order not to get hit by GDP. That's why I'm kind of looking for a general rule which I could use in the future...

On a different note I don't remember losing any game where my opponent played FCP. This is one defensive strategy which I would never run.

Unless you're looking to run up point differential on a terribly overmatched team, in which case a fast offense + FCP can sometimes help. Even then usually M2M is a better choice though.

I think fast offenses are best to counter FCP. Unless your handling and passing are very good, you might end up giving up more turnovers. Fast offenses will limit this by shooting the ball earlier in the shotclock and hopefully limiting the amount of chances the opponent has to steal.

Ok so my next opponent in the league has only 5 players..... should I use FCP to tire them?

If I were you I wouldn't play FCP. After all you only have 8 players in your squad yourself so you might end up tiring them out as well. In every game where my oponent played FCP against me it did them more harm than it helped.

Your next oponent last logged in in April so he's definitely gonna play Look Inside (like in his last game). I would set up a 2-3 Zone against his powerful PF & C.

I would also definitely use GDP because that's gonna give you an edge in this game.

But perhaps some more experienced managers will be able to give you more tips...

Ok so I will probably play 2-3. I will obviously use GDP. I will also play my best shooter (El-Gibril, as Kralovsky is out of form) on SG since he has a C in SG and run patient so that my players will easily find him since he is the best match-up.

Congratulations on your win. The point differential per quarter shows how your oponent's players got more and more tired into the game which your players seem to have expoited well. I would think that GDP + the 2-3 Zone won the game for you. Plus your idea to use El-Gibril as the go to man obviously.
