I thought I'd kick off our discussion with a poll.

Poll:  From which conference will the league champion come?

Wow, it seems that all of us have the same favourite for the championship ;)

Hi to the new guys in the league...

I´m not so sure who my favotite is...much harder to say than the past seasons because you dont know who has how much money on the account. So if someone has 2 millions for shopping, it could turn the landscape around.

Here's a quick look at cup draws in the first week of the Utopia Tournament:

The Game to Watch
WBGL II (1264) @ Odins Warriors (1271) - a preview of inter-conference play

The Favorites
Elbflorenz Supernova II (312) - Last season's Big 8 champions visit a middle-of-the-road team with cup aspirations from IV.16
Marxist Tardigrade Militia (593) - MTM visit a bottom-dweller from IV.56
Ratu Homegrown (801) - The all-utopian squad will take on a D.IV team whose bark is worse than its bite
Tartu Mighty Bears BC (1039) - The Estonians are in a game that could go either way. Luckily they're at home.
Thalassa Ottakring (988) - They hit the road to take on a weak team from IV.36
The Athenians (1168) - They host a struggling team from IV.10

The Underdogs
Arny Team II (619) - They're lined up to be the first victim of a team that's 2-for-2 on promoting seasons
Fender Stratocasters (1084) - They are visiting another D.IV team built around a single (bigger) star
Comelico Celtics (977) - They'll have a hard time winning on the road against a tough team from IV.54
Kibirai BC (829) - A solid team from IV.31 awaits them at the end of a trip
Tsalakomenoi B.C. (864) - They host a hot team from IV.4
Flow Gaming II (1158) - The D.III team coming to visit has the upper hand in this one

Nice preview, good way to spark some interest in Utopia league.
Bit surprised that I got an ok draft, after finishing relatively high up but I guess they were passed on due to not having MVP potential or something.
Ill try to hang with the 2nd team a bit and see if I can make the playoffs with my homebrewed project :)

Very nice preview! (y) My goal is still training young estonian bigmen and enjoy Utopia. So no promotian battle from Mighty Bears this year. Good luck to all teams!

Congratz, really nice post. For the very first time in Utopia, I have some chances of passing the first Cup round!!

... and even the second playing at home!

Wrap-up of Week 1 Cup action:

The One-'N'-Dones
Comelico Celtics - They couldn't manage an upset against the Frost City Phantoms
Flow Gaming II - Flow fought hard, but couldn't make up for sending Shanklin to the foul line for 36 shots
Odins Warriors - Only fielding a team of three, they basically conceded last week's "Game to Watch" to WBGL II
The Athenians - Without an answer for their opponent's star, Athens lay in ruins
Kibirai BC - Despite an explosive first period, they couldn't put together enough for a win

The Upsets
Arny Team II - Thanks to Andreani's heroics, Arny overcame a 68-75 defecit with 0:39 left to force overtime, where their depth helped them outlast their stunned D.II opponent
Fender Stratocasters - Overtime was the difference-maker in this game, too, where the Strats put together 5 extra minutes of 22-2 ball
Tsalakomenoi B.C. - 14 team steals and a little extra oomph helped them pave their way to the next round

Everyone else made it safely on through to Round 2

The Favorites
Marxist Tardigrade Militia (564) - They visit a basement team in IV.47
Elbflorenz Supernova II (334) - They visit a mediocre team in IV.38
Thanatos to Team II (512) - They play host to a lesser team from IV.46
Tsalakomenoi B.C. (859) - Despite a lower ranking than their IV.20 opponent, game shape and home court swing this one in their favor

The Underdogs
Tartu Mighty Bears BC (1020) - Our Estonian friends are likely to hit a snag when they host a talented team from IV.37
Ratu Homegrown (821) - They are up against a formidable foe from II.2
Fender Stratocasters (1083) - Londo and company will have an uphill battle ahead of them as they face a middle-of-the-road team from IV.5
Thalassa Ottakring (981) - Rank favors their IV.50 opponent, but home court and TO's two Österreich U21 trainees may be able to tip the scales in their favor
WBGL II (1267) - After crushing Odin's Warriors last week, it's their turn to be crushed by one of the top teams in D.II
