This is an idea that's been in the back of my mind for quite a while now, but until now there hasn't enough of a reason for me to put in the considerable effort. But now that I'm in the ABBL in a season where there doesn't appear to be any tanking teams, I have more reason than ever to try and put this together.
Some may remember a forum post I made a couple of years ago
(221742.1), where I used BB game analyser to look at the shooting data for Rudolph Radford in one ABBL season where he made 50% of his three point attempts despite having low JS and JR. This project would be like that, but on a much bigger scale; every player who gets a reasonable amount of playing time in the ABBL this season, analysing all 176 games of the regular season. And not necessarily just shooting data either, I'd like to be able to analyse defence based on how opposing players tend to perform against any one player. Maybe other areas of the game too...
It is a tall task indeed, and one that I'm not sure I'll be able to see through. Still, if there's enough interest for this sort of project I will try my best. Because if I can see it through I think it would give us a great insight into who the best players in the ABBL really are. We can make rough guesses based on the stats we are given already, but we cannot answer specific questions like "Who's the best mid-range shooter?", or "Who's the best lock-down defender?". Those are the sorts of questions I'd like to be able to answer by the end of the season.
And maybe we'll even be able to create ABBL rosters with realistic ratings in NBA 2K with the data afterwards ;). But anyway, let me know what you think about the idea...
