I agree with the part about 1-3-1, box-and-ones and FCP being unusable at high levels, but several offenses have in use before GDP was made. I know of a team that used Princeton (they still do), and another team used to run Motion. The only offenses that I think might have problems are Outside Isolation.

well i just discovered this thread.

ill comment just briefly.

I think user's try to fit their roster, into all tactics. They expect their current roster, which was built around, say a M2M defense, to suddenly also be awesome with FCP, or 3-2 zone.

What user's have not experimented with (or very few have ) are dramatically different rosters and then these different defenses.

I believe that all the defensive and offensive options are viable options at all level's. but user's have not had the courage to dramatically try things differently. A team with high stamina players, whom all have good OD, would probably work really well with FCP. Shot-blocking is a skill that very few users have tried to utilise to the same extent of other skills (OD and ID) yet those same users will be the ones to suggest that no other defense works except for M2M.

So i believe that all the defensive and offensive options have pro's/con's - its just that user's have trained the majority of their lineups to suit LI and M2M and as such, will always and only ever play those offenses.

If you want to see some examples of II and OO offense, and 3-2 zone defense, look at my games from last season.

So i think that we need to start building more odd teams if we want to get more offensees/defenses to work. Or be satisfied with what work with the teams that we have built for.

Yes, or in the case of lower-level and mid-level teams, who cannot afford wildly expensive trainers and wildly expensive recruits with which to custom build a team like the top guys can, learning to think outside the box as far as strategies and team composition, and making the most of every little shred of an edge that you can.

im literally analysing data from this season and last season where ive played 3-2 zones and II/OO and Motion a fair bit.

Not so concerned offensively, but defensively im working towards two big men with high SB. anyways ill let you know what i find.

I played box and one in matches where I was outplayed defensively at several positions (one in particular of course) and did ok with it, I would not have expected to perform better with mtm or zone defenses. I am no expert on box and one, someone else who has experimented more with it can surely give you some more insight.

Well there's always the right level of skills for each level.

There's a statement I wish people would remember whenever they post. Newbie managers read these forums, too ... newbie managers with newbie rosters and newbie budgets. They see the big teams and big managers post about their big teams and big players and think that is possible for them. They are smart enough to learn it isn't possible, though, and a lot of them quit.
Everything that is being done in the top league can also be done in any lower league.

Well, yes and no. Suggesting to a newbie manager (not saying that you ever suggested this, Manon) that he should have 100TSP as his norm or that 15 JS needs at least 12 JR to go with it is not an idea that any newbie manager should take to heart.
