My opponent for the scrimmage (selected automatically) didn't even start his cup game when the scrimmage was booked. Before the cup game played out, was the result already decided?

Yes, games are calculated in the 15 minutes before the start so he must have become available after the calculations were done even though the game hasn't even started.
