Since the old thread hit 1000 comments and was closed but the discussion continues all scattered around, I expected a new thread to start. Maybe everyone has given up on the game, but I haven't! C'mon, everyone, buy a second team in Utopia! Get your buddies to play. Advertise by word of mouth. Be of good cheer.

There are 182 users on line right now! That shows the vigor of the game, right? Three cheers!

Put your money where your mouth is and lead by example.

I will not buy an utopia team unless I decide to farm certain players, which is highly unlikely in the current environment.

Utopia is pretty fun. I'd recommend people give it a try if they can swing it financially.
Also, that one guy gives out free memberships every once in a while when he's feeling generous, so maybe catch him on a good day.

You can try different strategies from your main team, which is nice. In my case, I decided to go homegrown in Utopia, which was tough for the first couple seasons but I've been making the playoffs consistently for the last few seasons, and it's a bit sweeter since they are all players either from my original roster or ones I drafted. There are still gaping holes in my roster, but it is actually kind of hilarious and makes the team even more fun to follow.
For example, in my second season, my starting center led the league in OREBs, Fouls, and Turnovers. Reminded me of some of the classic one dimensional bigs in real life that I've seen over the years.

I can't relate to the utopian nationality, the ugly flag and the irrelevance of well trained players that will never play for a national team. And still I am training one of those guys, with the slight glimpse of hope those players can reach a higher goal one day...

Utopia for me, would just be a farm for out national team. $10 are not the problem and I have paid for supporter before. It's the slow development that cripples the game.

Those reasons not to join make sense based on your motivations.
My enjoyment comes from seeing how my players develop and improve over time.
Sure, it takes patience, and many games playing guys out of their ideal position, but it is worth it when playoff time comes and I get a little farther than the last year.

I don't really prioritize national teams or flag design, so those things don't bother me at all.

We are talking about 10+ seasons training to get a top tier player. So you have to play inefficiently for the majority of a players life only to get a short glimpe of his prime. I think that is/was frustrating for many users here and there has been a lot of criticism in this direction. A change would be more than welcome.

if someone covers the entry cost for a half-marathon or marathon... and the cost of a buzzerbeater shirt. I can get some advertising going that way

edit: 0 training, its more fun that way... kinda like "Run Fatboy Run" gimping along to the end.

one way to get a little pop on memberships is to throw in a utopia team with your membership or renewal.

I have said it before, and will again, the best way to attract eyeballs and clicks is to use google ad-words. Case in point, I put basketball managerial games into the search engine, it spit out results for basketball MANAGEMENT games and we do not show til the bottom of the page below basketball manager, charazay and even our buzzer-manager sub site, now I refine the search for just managerial and we show up 2nd to the top.

we need more banter coming out of not just the management of BB but the rank and file.

There's just a question to answer to understand if BB is going to death: is there any owner of the game that is earning any money right now?
If the answer is no, just shut it down.
If the answer is yes: is there any extra money to spend in advertising?
Because visibility is the only key to keep it alive.

Even if the answer is no, there is no reason to shut it down.
With current user trends, in two years we will still have over 16000 users.
Sure, that's not great compared to prior user levels, but it is still a heck of a lot of people playing a game they enjoy.
And who knows, in the meantime, maybe some folks will figure out a way to increase awareness and turn the tide back to gaining users on a consistent basis.
