Injuries suck. Even if realistic, they should be abolished. Otherwise we should also have players who die in car accidents, players who develop a drinking problem and whose performances drop considerably or players who just say decide they don't want to play basketball anymore and quit. Anyway, abolishing injuries won't happen. Managers will still have to cope with the frustration and the negativity that emerge everytime your keyplayer gets injured.

So, in order to counterbalance the side effects of injuries, I would like to propose that managers should be able to hire insurance against injuries. Managers should be able to decide with players they want to insure. They should establish an amount they want to insure each player and pay a proportional fee every week. For example, you have a player and you want to insure him for 1kk. You pay, let's say, 1,5% over this 1kk every week (15k) and if your player gets injured you don't pay his wages and receive 1kk to spend on a player available in the market (you can spend this money only to buy another player while the injury persists). You bid normally and if you buy a new player you can keep him (paying his wages) until the injured player recovers. Once the injured player recovers, the replacement returns automatically to the market as a free agent.

I think this has been suggested a couple of times ... but I still kind of like the idea of being able to insure your key players. And even though this idea probably needs some work (for example, I'd like it if you couldn't bid on players on the market but rather have a different "pool" of players that have already retired and have something like 2/3 of your injured players skillpoints or something alike) ... just thinking out loud. But I guess if we developed something that seems manageable to implement, the BBs might think about it....

Think of it as hedging your investment in a commodity trading game. Remarkable how well that concept fits here.

I don't like it, plus in reality insurance always equals losing money (in the long run).

The 1 million won't buy you a decent replacement too, plus if you buy a new guy you have to cope with too many players a few weeks later, kill your fan survey and so on...

Without injuries the game remains predictable and a manager is not forced to think on a short notice at times, making the game quite boring.
