What's does inside defense do? Is there any evidence that it has slowed down inside attacks? ID has just always been a mystery. It doesn't help block shots. Does it prevent inside shots or make the other team take tough inside shots? Not many inside shots are tough unless it's contested very well.

I figure that it is less about stopping and changing shots and more about inside positioning, denying passes into the post and when passes are made there the opposing player is not in optimal position [not on the block]. SO where it doesn't necessarily force misses, it makes it harder for the other player from the start.

One of the issues is that without SB I'd imagine good IS players would make tough shots without pressure on the attempt [i.e. not gonna let me get in the paint I'll carve you alive with my sick skyhook bro].

OD is the only skill IMHO that checks an opponent's HA and PA which create shot opportunities.

ID works great when you have SB to go along with it. Without SB, you just have sweaty man boobs pressed up against the offense with no ability to alter or block the shot and in those circumstances decent IS often prevails.

I agree with this. I've coupled SB and ID with my new roster and the results have been pretty good so far. Teams just can't score inside on me.

Of course both are better than either standalone. Added that you'd like to have REB so that when your opponent misses you get the ball back. Everything is connected... like the matrix... pick your pill.

Yes but trying to stop inside attacks with Inside Defense alone is like trying to run a 100 m dash with only one leg. Point being that ID is probably used to counter the guards ability to feed the big the ball and shot blocking is what actually alters any attempted shots.

As for your rebounding comment.... It certainly helps, but if you play any player at PF or C they will get rebounds regardless of their skill. Milwaukee Lethargy has a player with absolute 0 in the rebounding skill and he still managed to grab something like eight rebounds, if I remember right, in a single game because he played inside.

I'm expermetimg with some players and I don't plan on training ID. Yea they might ball down low but if they shoot it will be contested, altered or blocked. I rather be able to get a block or a good shot contest than stopping the big man from catching down low. They will get the ball down low and get position sooner or later because that's the main focus of the offense and when they catch it will be an easy layup since they have low SB.

Yea ID paired with SB would be better than SB alone but I would like to see skills in other spots that would take up salary and cap like IS, RB, JS. You have to give up skills somewhere to add SB and I'm going to try to skimp on ID a bunch. My ID on my players will be around 9-11 so let's see what will happen in a couple seasons.
