Not that it matters, but wasn't he more of a center though? I thought the reason he was listed at PF was for all-star voting purposes. (With guys like Yao Ming & Shaq getting a ton of votes at center).

Here's a quote by his coach back in 2011:
Indeed, Duncan made the All-Star team in 2009, 2010 and 2011 as a forward despite having played almost exclusively at center, according to 82games.com.

Even Spurs coach Gregg Popovich seemed to acknowledge the charade on the eve of last year’s playoff series against Utah. When asked who the Spurs would start at center, Popovich said, “Tim Duncan, like we have for the last 15 years.

There isn't really a guaranteed difference SF/PF/C spots etc. You can play with two point guards or a point forward too. It's all relative to the overall team build and play style IMO

Definitely. The old position classifications are pretty much obsolete.

But if you *are* going to be ranked by the old style positions, like when so many people do their all-time teams, it's probably a lot better to be considered a PF vs. a center.

Look at some of the centers you'd be competing with for a spot on an all-time team (not in order): Kareem, Wilt, Shaq, Russell, Olajuwan, Moses Malone, David Robinson, and so on.

Now compare that to PF (again not in order): Karl Malone, Barkley, Nowitski, Garnett, McHale, Bob Pettit, Chris Webber ... not bad players by any means. But not stacked like center is either.
