Same old problem. Let coach pick from depth chart. The designed backup (Karavokiris) starts the game instead of the starter and then plays all garbage time too.

Edit: sorry for the typo in the title...

But I guess it's the way it was intended to work, or at least the way it worked from the beginning.
Your complaint is about the backup starting the game or about the fact that he played the garbage time too?

No Marin knows of this, I reported 2 or 3 seasons ago and he admitted the sub patterns are broken except for Strictly. It was just a reminder that this has not been fixed and these bugs keep occurring.

This problem works like this:
Issue 1: The designated backup (Karavokiris) started ahead of the designated starter (Maierhofer)
Issue 2: Despite being considered as the starter at the beginning of the game the designated backup (Karavokiris) is then considered as the backup once garbage time begins

At least one of these 2 is a bug, probably both. As you can see the backup ended up playing 40 minutes in a garbage time game...

What I meant is that I guess this has worked always like this for what I remember. My guess is that the wrong behaviour of the game engine is more related to the issue 2 you mention, since garbage time should have an impact in all options, but I can't say for sure if it was set in this way intentionally or not.

Hopefully i have misunderstood you or you have misunderstood lemon and issue 1 is indeed a bug.

If you let the coach choose from the chart, why should be a bug that he chooses a backup?

This is interesting. Seems the game had deemed the backup to be stronger than the starter for the start, but then doesn't make the same designation come garbage time. If so, the intelligence is in the code to make the call, it's just not assigned to that garbage time the same way as it is to who starts the game.

Because nobody knows how this is supposed to work. I think I might have reported this as a bug once, but I accept this is a gray area and it's acceptable. As a matter of fact the GS can subvert the orders if the backup (but not the reserve, I don't think, although I'd have to try that specifically in a scrimmage at the end of the season) is significantly better than the starter.

You can see in the game manual is not clear at all:
You can set the balance between how much coaches use their own judgment or defer to yours with the substitutions box. You can use mostly your judgment (Strictly Follow Depth Chart), entirely the coach's judgment (Let Coach Decide), a mix between the two (Coach Picks from Depth Chart).
I'm not sure whether LCD now picks the best player at each position among the available ones making the Depth Chart completely useless (i.e. you put your Cs at PG defending PG, but the coach completely modifies the depth chart and plays them at C) or picks from the depth chart but always the best possible for the position (ie the Cs will play at PG, but the coach picks the best possible among them for the PG position). The first option is the same as LCD without setting a depth chart at all, the second is a glorified version of how CPfDC works.

Either way it's extremely vague in the manual, so it might be a bug in its own right.

@Lemon: Is the one that actually started the game stronger then the one that came in during garbage time?
Yes he is, however the previous week, same setup and the orders were not subverted. GS made the difference. This always happens when the orders are subverted, the depth chart is followed in garbage time and the coach sometimes subvert the orders during non-garbage time periods.

The way I see it, the starters no matter how they were selected (user or coach) should not play garbage time if there are alternatives available. I think that's incoherent and not how things are intended to be.
