I put my trainee as first lineup / sub / reserve for the same position and choose "strictly follow depth chart". Even in this case he still gets substituted by other players not assigned for the position during garbage time.

WHY???

You have to deal with it. The sooner the better. Follow some basic rules to minimize the chance your coach subs the player.

That happen often mate. If you want to be 100% sure your trainee will get 48+ minutes (except injuries or 6 fouls in the game) you need to put just 5 players in the roster, every player should be on his position as sub and reserve too.

Otherwise there is a chance your trainee will be replaced or something like that so he get, 48, 47, 46... minutes.

Best regards!

This is where we hold them!

Thanks!

I'm following this manual for training: http://www.buzzerbeater.com/community/forum/read.aspx?thread=144856&m=37

Is it out dated?

No, it's always been like that.

Lineup of 5 players: as it has been explained, the only chance he won't get 48.0 minutes is if he fouls out or gets injured.

Lineup of 9 players (8 if you train 2 positions): as above, plus he can get subbed if someone else is shooting free throws as Garbage time begins, plus he can be subbed if he has bad stamina and/or someone who started on the bench is much better than him at the position he's playing.

In the first case 4 backups come in and the FT shooter is swapped into the position of the trainee. Next break the trainee will come back in. In the second case, a starter other than the trainee will go in and the backup of that starter will replace the trainee. This mostly happens when the trainee is really bad compared to the starter or has no stamina.

You can therefore play 9 players with strictly or CPfDC provided that the trainee has decent stamina (4) and/or the 4 backups are better at other positions (so if you train PG, you will not want your best PG with 9 stamina and 9 GS as backup of your SG, as there is a good chance at some point the SG will go back in and he will replace the trainee at PG). The better the players become compared to the rest of the roster, the fewer problems you will have. It's rare for a player with 2-3 seasons of training to be substituted like that.

If stamina is the issue playing at low pace helps a little. Most problems arise with garbage time, but sometimes (stamina/ability gap) also in non garbage time games.

Since you are not competing, my suggestion would be to always use Strictly and check what works with your roster, leaving the last game of the week to round minutes (if possible) until you see there are no issues anymore. Alternatively (say you trin 3 players single position) you will have to play 5-man lineups for the player(s) who can't stay on the court.

Yes well, if you put weaker players than your trainees it is likely that they will be subbed out instead of the trainees in the first place ;). I did this on purpose a few times and it worked.
