Just a thought that came to my mind, as trades are a big part of the NBA:
First of all, I like that we are not able to trade players. That's a thing I would keep as is.
My suggestion: The ability to trade draft picks. I thought of this because this season, I'm in a league with only bot teams and there are some promising talents in the draft. As the best team in the league, my chances of getting a great youngster could be better. That's why I think trading might be helpful.
Of course, trading picks would need to have a set of rules, like for example:
- Trading picks is only possible with managers from the same league.
- Max. 5'000$ for 3rd Rounders, Max. 50'000$ for 2nd Rounders, Max. 250'000$ for 1st Rounders
- Each team has to trade at least one pick with each trade
- Deadline: Trading picks is only possible until the Allstar game (before you know anything about the rookies, standings might change as well)
- You can only trade picks with active managers (wouldn't help my case this season, but necessary in my opinion.)
Scenarios:
1. Team X is 4th, Team Y is 6th. Manager of Team Y believes that he will have a better record than Team X at the end of the season, therefore he trades his 1st Rounder against Team Xs 1st. At the end of the season, Team Y is 3rd and Team X is still 4th. Team Y made a good deal.
2. Team W spends a lot of money on scouting and thinks he'll have tons of talents to choose from. He trades his 1st rounder for the worst teams 2nd and 3rd rounder. Team W now has 4 picks in the draft, the worst team only 2, but two 1st's.
3. Team Z wants another 1st rounder, trades his 2nd rounder plus 200'000 against a 1st.
I know this would have to be thought out some more, as it is very complex, but I would like to see this in the future. It would be a bit like gambling (ex. Scenario 1) and would make the draft even more exciting.
If you've read this far, tell me what you think
