I don't think it's dumb at all. If I am truly interested I am going to be there when he comes off the list so I can try to get him. Now does this lead to some bidding wars, hell yes! At that point you got a choice, either keep running up the bid like your at Sotheby's auction house in NYC OR in that extra three minutes that the auction is extended drop the other manager a BB mail to dissuade him from staying in the auction. I find the latter to be extremely effective, but I also only go that route if I have a real need for that player and I communicate that need. I also only go that route when it looks like there is only one other manager competing for that player or staffs services.

However if there is a high interest in a particular player where 3,4,5 or more managers are going after someone these auctions be like....

Because it is the best way to buy player without overbidding. If you would bid like hours before the sale your final bid, then nearly guaranteed somebody will steal it during last seconds without any competition.

Bennefits bidding last seconds: some people have limited cash, if they online usually they bid on more than 1 player selling around the same time. So if you place bid early they can manage money/decide which player to grab. If you bid last seconds, it might be he doesnt have cash to overbid you.

Also people dont want to start bid wars, most of them will give up after few bids because they are expecting very cheap steals which they dont get if you compete.

If other people want to compete with you they need to be online iduring the auction time. Not everyone can be online everytime.

If you bid like with very low raises for example on trainees from 1k to 200k or so, and wait seconds before auction ends you can extend auction by like 1,5 hour; some people need to go to bed to sleep or to work, they must just give up.

Bidding rules are Very strict.. If a player. Is worth 75k and I just post 275k [my best offer ]. The Gm can ban me for money transferring . So, I think with last second bidding a lot are trying to stay in a near zone of their paying limits without being banned/fined, In error

No GM can ban you for overbidding unless it's blatantly obvious you are deliberately transferring money. There are situations where a player worth roughly 75k might be worth 275k to some teams.
