There is no actual study about this.
My personal view:
- 3-2 will have big men defends most drives and inside shots even from perimeter players
- 3-2 will give you a lower team ID rating and if the theories are correct, this means a higher number and/or higher efficiency for the offense on open shots
- 3-2 should prevent more passes due to higher team OD rating
- 3-2 rebounding will be lower
So it's really dependent on what the team's strengths are and what the skills of the players are. Ultimately, for me, unless the bigs have elite defensive skills (both of them), it's usually not worth it. With poor SB and high ID bigs, I found that I often got murdered in midrange shooting fouls, but the fouling numbers are difficult to estimate because LI often generates a lot of fouls.
